Only somewhat related:
All this misery and surliness made me think: Where the fuck is @Dorset? Haven't seen him on here in quite some time.

Bit of a stream of consciousness but ..

We've got such a terrible defence of "serial losers" that we managed to win our last 3 home games 1-0, 2-0 and 2-0 against Manchester City, West Ham and Chelsea respectively. Dier and Davies, who frequently get named as two of the biggest culprits, played in all three of those games.

Davies has also played at LCB internationally and acquitted himself very well.

But then you arguably see the real problem ..

To say his display was appalling is being polite. Obviously he's not solely responsible because there are plenty of other players who were guilty, but when you throw that kind of performance into a defence that was relatively settled (ish),it's going to cause problems.

But then I think, in a weird way, this is kind of on Levy while simultaneously not being on Levy. The net spend has actually gone up year on year since that window under Poch where we spent nothing, so the notion that there's no investment in the team is demonstrably false so I think that part isn't on Levy.

The part that is, IMO, is the type of players we've bought because of how Levy seems to think this is Football Manager on the PC. Years of cheap punts and poundland versions of who the manager really wants and we're left with the squad we have and all the players out on loan because nobody will pay the over inflated prices for them.

Wouldn't say Samchez was a cheap punt. Was our record signing for a bit. Problem is our wage structure meant we compete with nobody for these types of players and for good reason. They're not good enough. Ajax bled us dry on this one. As did Lyon on Ndombele.
