Yeah I agree that's a biggie, there are a few bones of contention in here especially very few of Sir Bill's team..........but it will never be right for everyone.

Picking the best individuals for a best ever Spurs team, let alone one that works on the pitch at least in theory is one of the biggest time wasters available on a Friday afternoon.

I mean, deciding the midfield is literally impossible... even if you give yourself a squad. Can you not take a Gazza, or a Hoddle, or an Ardiles, or a Blanchflower, or a Mackay, or a Eriksen, or SteveyP, or Rafa... and the list goes on, and on. Even Modric, is arguable... if you discount the whole 'way they leave'.

The thing is, I reckon our first all time eleven would give most other first all time elevens a good go. We've have some quality players down the years, sadly enough most of the time, not at the same time.

An embarrassment of riches really.

I reckon you can sort the midfield if you play;
Jennings
King
8 in midfield
Greaves

Ryan mason is a guest on Football Focus this lunchtime (BBC 12:00),maybe he'll confirm when he's coming home. Actually the BBC site lists him as 'expert' not 'guest' so maybe he's gone all JJ and is becoming a pundit?

Trippier and Hissing Sid both looked good in the England game last night. I know the Neddies are not the team they used to be, but the England performance was good enough for me to stay awake through the entire game, that makes a change. The pressure must have been on them to do well for Ingerlund after the Cricket massacre and the Six Nations humiliation. The BBC disagree with me - only giving Tripper 6/10 and Rose 5 - Fake News!

http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/financial-results-year-end-30-june-2017-030418/

Financial Highlights

Revenue for the year ended 30 June 2017 was at a record level of £306.3m (2016: £209.8m).

Premier League gate receipts were £19.0m (2016: £22.2m). Gate receipts decreased in comparison to the prior year as a result of the demolition of the North-East corner of White Hart Lane Stadium. The stadium continued to sell out for all Premier League home games, further underlining the need for an increased capacity stadium to meet demand and satisfy a waiting list for season tickets that has now risen to over 62,000.

The Club participated in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League and the round of 32 of the UEFA Europa League (2016: round of 16 of UEFA Europa League) resulting in gate receipts and prize money of £44.6m (2016: £18.7m).

Revenue from the domestic cup competitions earned the Club £5.0m (2016: £2.4m).

Television and media revenues rose to £149.8m (2016: £94.8m),due to the commencement of a new three-year Premier League broadcasting deal and a record second place league finish (2016: third).

Sponsorship and corporate hospitality revenue was £54.7m (2016: £48.8m) and merchandising revenue was £14.0m (2016: £12.0m).

Profit from operations, excluding football trading and before exceptional items and depreciation, was £117.6m (2016: £63.3m). Profit for the year after interest and tax was £41.2m (2016: £33.0m).

The Group has continued to invest significantly in construction work, professional fees and enabling works relating to the Northumberland Development Project (NDP) with the cumulative spend increasing from £115.3m to £315.1m during the period.

Group net assets are £227.2m (2016: £206.1m) whilst the Group has cash, net of all borrowing of £14.6m (2016: £47.6m).

Northumberland Development Project (NDP) Update

Following the demolition of White Hart Lane in May, 2017, the construction of the new stadium has significantly accelerated. The roof is in the process of being raised with many interior areas being fitted out; seats are currently being installed in the bowl along with the LED video screens. The Tottenham Experience, Museum and Retail store, which includes the restoration of the historic Warmington House, is well underway. Groundworks have been completed to Paxton House which will deliver a new Ticket Office and an additional retail store. Percy House has been painstakingly restored to its former glory and is now the new home of the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation.

We continue to push local and regional government regarding the timely delivery of the associated public sector infrastructure work and transport upgrades.

The stadium project continues to drive benefits to the local area. We have now delivered more than 1,200 jobs across many different sectors of employment.

The Lodge

The elite player accommodation facility for the First Team and Academy will open in May, 2018. This 46-bedroom facility will deliver an unparalleled environment for player rest and rehabilitation, further enhancing what is widely recognised as one of the best Training Centres in Europe. The Brazil national team will be using the facility for their pre-World Cup preparations.

Outlook

Chairman, Daniel Levy, said: “Extraordinary levels of financial and human resource have seen significant progress on capital projects, with schemes underway at both the new stadium site and our Training Centre.

“As custodians of the Club we are ever-conscious of the need to ensure the future stability of the Club whilst managing its growth.

“We are in an historic period for the Club and there is a growing sense of excitement. There will, however, be many challenges in the coming months as we near the latter stages of the construction of the new stadium and its opening.

“The drive and determination to deliver our best across all areas of the Club, together with the unity and support of all involved, will, I believe, see us meet those challenges.”

With the significant exception of the Season Ticket debacle, pricing, communication and process, the club is now leaping forward, almost completely transformed and as of Sunday is officially the best club in London. It is crucial that this new, tougher, more robust and increasingly successful Spurs, also does not lose it's identity, soul and relationship with our fans. About 3,000 of whom were fantastic again throughout Sunday afternoon.

The thing I don't get, apart from we're all obviously disappointed that we didn't win the cup semi final, is the general disillusionment around at the moment. Ok we were battered against City, struggled at Brighton and lost to United in a Cup semi final, before scraping a lack lustre win against Watford. I've been critical over the past few matches, but when you take a step back, this is about as good as it gets over the last 30 years at Spurs.

Have we been duped by the media, or is it that our own expectations are now too great. I hated losing to Juve and United and endured Watford on Monday night. but now realise that's 3 games in a season when we stuffed Liverpool, Madrid and Dortmund, beat United, Chelsea and Arsenal. We have another season of CL hopefully to look forward to in one of the best Stadiums in Europe, if not the best.

Ticket prices are unfairly high and Poch may have got his tactics wrong in a couple of big games. But are we seriously now saying we are the finished article. We'd better go and support City if that's the case and even they 'only' won the League Cup and the League.

I hope Poch bins his 'high defensive line' (AVB disaster) and I think next year we will be even better. But either way let's at least enjoy supporting the team. I've had great days this year and only 2 bad ones. that's pretty good isn't it? - Best team in London.

I've seen a lot of this today, didn't realise he'd been down there for so long. He used to have a sports shop not far from where I used to live in Greenford. 854 games for us 854, I don't think that will ever be beaten.
When I met him I asked how it was down there,"I moved there for the weather and to avoid the traffic, the weather`s shit and the fucking traffic is worse",probably the same feeling I get inside when someone asks me what I do in the winter here, which is about 500 times a summer, every summer.
My favourite spurs player ever and always will be.Especially as he signed my "the lane" book "COYS thanks for your support".

Stevie P: “What have I taken from 51 years? The need to do it right”
Posted on 27 May 2018 - 11:45
All-time great Steve Perryman calls time after 51 years in football at Wembley Stadium on Monday.
steviep730c.jpg

Almost 51 years after walking through the famous old ‘Bill Nicholson’ gates at White Hart Lane and approaching 50 years since his debut for Spurs, the Club’s record appearance maker on 854, captain for 11 years, FA Cup (2),UEFA Cup (2) and League Cup (2) winner then 17 years in management including a year here and a successful spell in Japan and now 15 years as Director of Football at Exeter City, Steve will retire after Exeter’s League Two play-off against Coventry City.

How apt that Steve, now 66, waves goodbye to the game at Wembley, home of our back-to-back FA Cup wins in 1981 and 1982, when Steve lifted the trophy. He told us earlier this year how the famous 1981 final, Ossie’s dream, Ricky’s goal, put the Club back on the map.

Below: Steve at White Hart Lane in 2016

steve_perryman730x550.jpg

Steve announced his retirement in January and speaking to us this week, explained his decision to finally let go.

“I love the football part, love it, but I’m spending too much time on coach rides against the time I’m spending on the football, which is what I enjoy.

“There’s an over-balance, seven, eight hours to get to Lincoln, the game lasts 90 minutes. I know it’s more than the game but the travelling...I also had a blood clot in my lung at Christmas, and it just said to me ‘hold on, be sensible’.

“Not that I have! I’ve done my job, followed the team around, but perhaps I need to go to games without that pressure. It was 3-1 (against Lincoln in the play-off semi-final) the other night and I’m still there on the touchline as if I’m playing. You can’t ever relax.”

So how do you sum-up 51 years in the game and all that time at Spurs?

His managers (Club greats like Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw) and team-mates (from Jennings, Mullery, Peters and Chivers to Hoddle, Ardiles, Villa, Roberts and Waddle),the cup wins and the glory nights, like his two goals against AC Milan in the UEFA Cup semi-final in 1972?

Below: Steve at Exeter in 2016

steviep730x1000.jpg

What will Steve take with him after all that time? Here’s what he had to say…

“I grew up at Tottenham and that’s where I learned everything that has carried me through the rest of my career be it in Japan, Norway or Exeter.

“Bill Nick, Eddie Baily (Bill's assistant),Keith Burkinshaw, Peter Shreeves, I live off their words and I was lucky enough to be able to take their words and carry them out and see the benefit of them.

“It’s a belief you just need to do it right. My life was football. It’s as easy to try and do it right as to know you are doing it wrong. That doesn’t mean to say you win every game but Bill Nick and Eddie Baily had this old-fashioned way, you had to climb a mountain to get a ‘well done’ from them, but you still kept trying to climb that mountain.

“You have to be true to yourself. That was Eddie Baily’s thing, ‘be true to yourself, son’. You know if you’ve covered enough ground, you know if you put your foot into that tackle or not, you know if you jumped out of the way of the ball aimed at your goal, or put your body in the way.

“They could give you the biggest criticism but when you walked away 10 yards, Eddie Baily would say to you ‘son, first name on the team sheet for me’ and you’d go through it all again, and love it!

“I always say I joined Tottenham because of Bill Nick’s honesty and genuine way of doing things. I hope and I believe that’s how I’ve gone through 51 years. I was always trusted and always gave an honesty in performance. That honesty...I’ve not kidded players, I’ve not kidded parents when we’ve wanted to sign their son and I’ve not kidded agents - just say it like it is.

“At Tottenham, I was given a football integrity that I’ve carried with me wherever I’ve gone. People who taught me how to play, not how not to play. That’s what I’ve taken with me.”
