You're a very vocal anti Ange.
So just for shits & giggles, if he were to be sacked today, b/c it can't be fast enough according to you, who would you bring in to take over? What's your reasoning for that particular appointment & what would that entail? A team make-over? A rebuild? How long are you willing to wait for the turnaround?

Because to me, it just seems like a rinse & repeat given Levy got it horribly wrong with Nuno, Jose, & Conte. Do you believe he'll get it right with the next one? Or the one after that?

We finally have some excitement for the first time since peak Poch era. We've seen the potential this system & thin squad possesses. With greater recruitment we could strengthen the side & minimize the lows.

We could have progressed if Levy supported him but he didn't. That is the wildcard in this situation.
I agree with this. It's definitely a long-term project, which obviously has to be balanced with results, because that's how it is. That's why I'm really putting all my hopes on the cups.

Saying that, my biggest fear is that we'll lose at Southampton, which would probably make Ange's position untenable in Levy's eyes.

I think we’ll win the Europa League. That gets us both a trophy and CL qualification.

EL should be our priority. We do not have the squad depth right now to be competing on all fronts so let’s fight the fights we can win.

Grab some silverware this season and nobody will give two fucks that we lost to Ipswich.

Cristian Romero eh ?

"The truth is, I would say no comment, but... Manchester City competes every year, you see how Liverpool strengthens its squad, Chelsea strengthens their squad, if one doesn't do well, they strengthen again, and now they're seeing results. Those are the things to imitate. The last few years, it's always the same people responsible [at Tottenham]. Hopefully, they [Tottenham hierarchy] realise who the true responsible ones are, and we move forward because it’s a beautiful club that, with the structure it has, could easily be competing for the title every year."

So we have Romero calling it exactly as it is. Players are well behind the manager but the problem remains the same as it always has been.

Fuckwits calling out Postecoglou are wrong.

I am in two minds about Ange. Really want him to succeed but just wonder if his approach is bit floored in the PL with the added Europa games and the high intensity his style demands. But saying that, the squad clearly needs more depth and a couple of transfer windows plus time to allow the likes of Grey, Bergvill, Moore to establish themselves.

Personally, I'm happy to back him whilst we are sill in the Europa and/or the squad back him.

Wow!

He fucking certainly knows how to angle a move to Real!
Not entirely sure if this is true but he's also supposed to have "liked" a post on social media that suggested that if Ange was sacked he and other senior players would look to leave.

Mate, my view is that his approach will work anywhere if he has the right players and support systems in place.

What should not be forgotten here is that this is a rebuild project and we have the 3rd youngest squad in the league. Young teams will look like world beaters one week and pub footballers the next. That is the nature of youth. When kids get a game on their terms they often look unbelievable but when the pressure goes on they often go to water. This is happening with us to a degree. When opponents let us play we are truly a sight to behold. Conversely, when opponents get into our faces or play in a way that stifles what we are about, we fold up. But the beauty of youth is that they will learn how to react better in these situations. The downside is that is will take a while and frankly, we just have to be patient.

It is also important, when talking about Ange’s methods, to note that given our squad quality right now compared to the others in the top 4-5 whom we seek to compete with, it makes absolutely no sense to me that we would try to replicate a style of football that those more seasoned teams play. If we do that then all we would ever do is play catch up. This is why Conte and Mourinho crashed and burned here. They were trying to implement styles that were tired, and they were doing it in a league that had seen those tricks before. Ange, in my opinion has no option but to stick to his guns. We have to give the other clubs something to think about tactically. If we come out and try to play like Liverpool, City, Arsenal or Chelsea then we have lost from the start because all of those teams do it better than we do. We will only succeed if we present something that the others rarely see and force them to adapt to us. And there is evidence that this approach can be successful. But again, youth, injuries and a thin squad mean baby steps, rather than giant leaps right now.

What Ange needs is time. And he needs breathing space to be afforded his failings along the way.

Nice post.

And furthermore, the model we currently operate under seems to be approved by Levy.
Up & coming talent that suit the player profile at an affordable price.

We're not going to blow our financial brains out like some other clubs paying 70M+ for a single player.
We've bought 3 at approx 60M & so far only Solanke looks promising to pan out.

It would be absolutely ridiculous for Levy to move away from this approach at this time when fans are back on board with a thrilling, attack minded system only to bring in a new coach & set us back some more years.

Then again, it is Levy.

We've scored more goals (31) than any team in the division except Chelsea, and we've conceded fewer (19) than all but Liverpool, Man United, Chelsea, Forest, and Arsenal. So for all the talk about our defensive fraility, the "suicidal" high line, set pieces, etc, we really don't give up that many goals. And this is with our best defenders unavailable for much of the season.

IMO, the problem isn't the system, it's not the high line, it's not playing from the back. It's that we can't manage the tempo of games. The pressing intensity is like the early Poch years, but we either won't or can't slow games down from time to time.

With the ball, we are obviously set up to play quickly through the lines, kind of like a less-talented version of Liverpool under Klopp. When I watch the dippers play now, they're able to balance that cut and thrust with periods of basically boring football, when they just take the sting out of games through possession. Not sure we have the players to do that (Gray looks like that kind of player for the future) but I think it's what we need. We try to play this turbo-speed football with and without the ball for 90 minutes, and we can't do it. Especially not as thin as we are right now.

None of this is not defending Ange, because it's his responsibility. Also not downplaying the high risk/reward factor of how we play.

But the other thing I'll say is that the stats geeks are usually right in the end. When the numbers are good, which ours pretty much have been, the results usually start to follow. IMO we don't have the squad to finish top four, so we should really focus on the cups, but I could definitely see us putting together a good run soon.

Good points.

We have not lost any game by more than a single goal so that tells me that we are in every game we play. So your point about managing tempo is well made. But again, that is something that comes with experience and will take time.

We are not as far away as it looks right now.

Agreed. Of course, the injury crisis in the back complicates things a lot at a time when we need results.

Levy didn’t get it wrong with Conte but chose not to back him when we were 4th and had he done so we would have probably won the league that season or the season after but he didn’t so Conte got himself sacked

What’s the point of hiring a cheque book manager without giving him the cheques and the same can be applied to Jose!

Both were proven winners in decent competitions unlike that fat Aussie fraud that we have now!

But you carry on with the faith that Ange will turn it around

Good result at Southampton but they’re shite

Do the same on Thursday and Sunday then I will be converted!

Interesting example, because plucky Newcastle have "got on with it" to be currently tied on points with us with a vastly inferior goal difference. I'd never go on their forums, because life's too short. But I'd be willing to bet the same conversation we're having is going on there, because despite keeping their peckers up in the midst of an injury crisis, they, like us, have won one of their last five.

But they have a decent manager not a pub League one!
