It's a really odd choice. Said he wanted to stay in London and would have liked CL football. At least Brentford ticked one of those boxes and he'd have been a hero for staying there.

United won't be back in the CL anytime soon.

Since Conte prob (sadly) didn't want him, I wish he'd stayed at Brentford. But fuck it, if I was him, I'd get another payday. He's playing with house money at this point. When he had his heart attack, one of the first things that came to mind was him talking in the Amazon series about how short player careers are.

These boys make a lot of money, and if they're smart they never really have to work again. But I don't begrudge them getting as much as they can if clubs like United are willing to splash it out. As far as the football goes, Ten Hag strikes me as the sort of manager he'd want to play for as well. Still, you're right, in the short term at least they're going to be a right mess.

I don't think he's in France's starting XI, and it's going to be so important to have cover in every position this season more than any other with fixtures crowded around the impending fiasco in Qatar. So a loan this season definitely makes sense.
