I don’t understand football tactics, if 4-2-3-1 was so good and it was, why change it? What tactics are Liverpool and City using? They seem pretty effective (for them) and why pass to your central defender from a goal kick when he’s standing about 5 yards away on the corner of the 6 yard box??? That’s not going to end well sometimes is it? Play the way that best suits the team eh? That usually works best.
I think the idea is that the opposition have to come to close down and make contact which creates some spaces, doesn't really work like that for us though as the opposition wait by the half way line!

Right so I've been reading a lot and this post caught my eye of on SC...

"I think your post sums it all up. A lot of the changes are reactive rather than proactive. We're trying to find a system that allows us to fit Sissoko, Winks and Ndombele into the same team rather than fitting players into a proven system that works.

A pragmatist would drop Sissoko, Winks or Ndombele, (perhaps even 2 of them) and play the proven 4-2-3-1 with a DM, or at least experiment with other systems like a 4-3-3 with 2 wide forwards. Poch however seems hellbent on making the diamond work, despite the copious evidence that it's a pile of shite."

Now, I'm wondering if the problem is the players sort of revolted against the diamond/tactics and whether this is why Poch is so determined to make it work. If he's backed himself in to a corner by pulling rank on the players and insisting on the diamond it could explain a lot of what we are seeing on and off the pitch with players wanting to move on etc.

I've been harping on about this for weeks. Doing my head in. City and Liverpool start the season to fliers. Why.... Because they started the season as they ended the last.

It is tough on winks or Sissoko, but if Ndombele is the future then I'm sorry but one needs to sit on the bench.

Sissoko even came out and said the players struggle with the diamond as it takes more energy to compress the pitch. If our players who are fit as fuck struggle then it's obviously not the way to play.

Unfortunately Pochettino is clearly a very stubborn man in what he wants and for some reason he is pushing on with something we clearly aren't comfortable playing.

I love our manager, but at the min I lump alot of our bad form on his silly tactical changes.

The passing in the box thing looks class when Ederson does it, but he is so confident on the ball. Lloris however is not lol. Its also drilled in to us so much we can't mix it up which makes it so obvious.

It's the same with any of our play coming out of the box though. 46th minute against Bayern Ndombele tries to keep it close for a break. Just hoof the fucking thing and get in to half time. It's been the story of our season so far. Playing around the box bang on half time while the other team is pressing.

It's actually what we used to do against the opposition in the 90th minute. We were fitter than most opposition, so pushed them into mistakes at the end of the game. Now teams do it to us at half time while we dick around with the ball.

Because we're shagged out from the playing the diamond! Damn we're good!

I really don't see any other way now (as much as I don't want to admit it),unless Levy is gonna put up 500 big ones to redo the entire squad. I only saw last 25mins and looked like everyone had just given up.

You were lucky, I watched the whole game, it wasn't an experience Want to repeat. Despite all the gloom, we are not in that much trouble regarding the top four, realistically that and the FA Cup are the only goals now, we ain't going to get that lucky in the CL again.. One win over one of the current incumbents of the top four and we're back in there, but, after watching the mot recent 3 games I am struggling to see where that win will come from. The football today made the AVB era look exciting, slow, no passion, no vision, no nuffink really.

We do have some great players but when even Harry Kane looks not bothered then I can't see the solution. I am not a football expert but the only blokes who like they want to play are Lucas and Sonny. I don't understand why Lucas is not starting matches.

I have had time to think, with all the media BS out there.

I had forgotten where we came from before Pochettino. I had forgotten we compete at the top of the best league in the world without the same resources. I had forgotten we were ECL finalists last year. I had forgotten the financial restrictions placed on the team by the internal improvement

I am disappointed we have not won a trophy, I am disappointed with our teams start to the season but I know how our team can play under the manager and I know the grass is not always greener

Sometimes we need to reflect realistically. We don’t buy trophies or titles, we have to act differently.

Don’t be swayed by the banter pundits who use the situation as fuel for internet hits.

Sacking the manager will not solve where we are. We will recover, this will all be forgotten about by Xmas

Speaking at a news conference after Saturday's game at Amex Stadium, Pochettino said: "Football is a game that sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. The problem for us - it was win, win, win and it was praise for everyone.

"Now in the last two games it was a tough situation to accept. But I don't want to be a philosopher or talk in a way that is not good."

It's not just two games though Mr Poch. 6 wins and 9 losses in 19 games in the premier League is a fucking crisis.

Utd must be ready to pull the trigger on Ole.... surely their hierarchy will have Poch top of their want list and for him prestige, wages and buying power could be the next step in his career.

I also dont think they would bulk what so ever at the purported £32,000,000 release clause for his services.

Now I don't want this to happen but we have to make our intentions clear about what direction we want to go.

It's a very tough binary choice,

Rebuild with Poch
Or
Rebuild with someone else.

Let's face it, we need a rebuild regardless of who is at the helm.

I'd pull the trigger on a fucking boat load of our players and spend money on exactly what Poch wants...

Begs the question why when Poch said pre-season a painful rebuild was neccesary, the board didnt act.Complacency?tight?repeatedly they have said stadium wont impact transfers, revenue is through the roof for the new stadium,£100m champions league prize money,we can afford to not have naming rights,we have done exactly the same as arse did, allowed others to outspend and put our position at risk, which in the end will cost the club money.
Yes we bought lo celso and Ndombele for big fees, but poch clearly wanted to sell rose, wanyama, aurier, whether he wanted to or not eriksen is going, jan, toby out of contract dele&dier side lined for whatever.Even the kardasians knew we needed a right back, our 2 starting CBs leaving, only one true striker cos we let Llorente go.If you cant see the signs when Poch repeatedly says "i am nothing to do with contracts, signings" in the pressers when asked,it just looks and sounds like an awful mess.If Poch isnt in charge of playing personnel, who the fuck is?Ah yes it would be the guy who knows fuck all about football but can spot a property deal a mile off and has/is buying up huge chunks of N17 for his gentrification masterplan.Does he really believe a flash training centre and stadium is the key motivation for players, yes infrastructure is important, but I would rather have a 36k stadium and win the league cup once in a decade,if thats the choice.Too busy wanking off into his Hugo Boss (sponsors of tottenham suits) socks over NFL money and dreaming of buying 356-392 High Road N17 than a competant right back.

The only--and I mean only--thing that's keeping me from utter despair right now is that nobody else other than Liverpool is any good either.

I used to wear socks, not Hugo Boss of course unless they were knock-offs like the Rolex I bought for a fiver in Thailand. My current state of Zen-like calm wobbled a bit this morning when I saw the TV report about the slidey pitch and NFL at the Lane. Fuck that, fuck that very much, fuck that twice. I want to see football played there like it was in the olden days, not fucking Americans fucking bashing into each other. Ommmmmmmm......... calm again.

I thought I was a 100% Poch backer, but doubt is beginning to creep in.

I know I shouldn't do it, but if you read the Fighting Cock tabloidesque screamers, all this stuff about him having lost the dressing room starts to prey on your mind. And if you think back to the leadup to the CL final, when all his weird interviews started, you can't help but wonder whether he's lost his desire, if not the dressing room.

I watched the Bayern game again, and to be fair, apart from the 5 minutes when our Serge took a nap and their Serge didn't, and the last 10 awful minutes, it really wasn't that bad a performance. In fact, at 4-2 we looked like we might get back into it, but then Poch took off Winks to go all out attack and they fell apart. I haven't been able to bring myself to watch the Brighton game yet to be honest.

So is it Poch? Has my hero suddenly become the wrong kind of GOAT? I don't want to believe it, but maybe I should?

I am thinking its a "soft" discord between him and Levy?.All his dialogue has been about painful rebuilds,he not dealing with contracts, signings, outgoings,is that Poch wanting to step back from being a "manager" and wanting to be coach?could be,or
Levy controlling the team more than he should be?,or simply Levynomics wont allow him to sell players not wanted because of money on paper being lost?Remember it took more than 2 years to sell an unwanted Janssen, and Njie, clearly wanyama is unwanted, rose, aurier too, because of the shortness of their time left jan, toby and eriksen,I think poch wants to move forward with the team for next year, maybe that is him being short-sighted and not utilising players here and now.
I havent lost faith in him but if we dont see a reaction from the team the next month and he doesnt react with painful surgery to the starting sides,I will deeply question why we are meandering along. If a couple of big name examples are culled, well it worked in his first year, skipp, parrott, tanganga cant do worse than the team did at brighton?if it is going to be a painful rebuild then lets not tread water lets get on with it.

I wouldnt careless if wanyama and aurier never make the squad again, harsh on them, danny rose?well he has been awful for us and england, dier? these are the prime suspects for me in a dressing room division.I think jan and toby are too wiley to be drawn into club politics and the eriksen saga needs to end with him either getting back into the mood or sitting on his arse for 3 months til january.

Interestingly we haven't seen any happy squad training pics and video's for some time. I know it's international week etc. but that sort of thing would be good PR to show a united group?

Had to say this was one of the more lucid comments

So in less then a year at the Tottenham hotspur NFL Rugby Beer tasting arena we've 1. Been charge the highest ticket prices in Europe 2. Covered the whole ground in red 3. Lost by the biggest margin in european history 4. Losing most of our core players on a free

whats funniest is when we win they all disappear back into their bedrooms.Latest muppet said if you dont want mourinio because of how sets his teams up,guarantees success blah blah,i just told him cant deny his record but I dont want him cos he is an egotistical cunt.Got the reply back "we`ve already got one of those" I just sighed and didnt bother replying.

I assume every club has 'fans' or 'supporters' like these? the ones that expect to win 3-0 every week home and away and when it doesn't happen just slag everyone off, including the bloke that has delivered more hope in the past 5 years than anyone in the previous 30 years or so. They're just a fucking waste of time and energy. save your pixels mate.

I wonder if the Man City defectors from the old place have now defected to Liverpool? I remember those olden days with fond affection, that was when they really started hating me, they don't like it up 'em Mr Mannering.

I don't think anybody can deny it's a bit pony at the moment, but calling for the head of Mr Poch ain't going to fix it - and fucking Mourinho? I'd rather have AVB back. I don't think this slump will last, the players and the manager are too good for that, a couple of decent wins and we'll be OK, a good run in the FA Cup, get 4th place and we can all start dreaming again next season . Levi is a cunt though, but as usual I don't have any constructive solutions because the next cunt would probably an even bigger cunt than Levy.

It is, but at the moment means from about last March -May and August -October. So 5 months of meh football in the past 5 years generally speaking. Having suffered through two decades in the 90's and Noughties I'm very prepared to put up with a bit of crap awhile longer. These twats who think we're Barcelona all of a sudden and have no memory because they've only been supporting Spurs, since we beat Real Madrid 3-1 at Wembley can fuck right off.

I think for me that's the issue bud.... I started to believe...!!! I sat through the decent cup runs and the odd victory against decent sides when we played out of our skins and they had an off day... but I suppose I got comfy winning most weekends in a way that was fresh exciting and with players every other club wanted but we had...

We havent fallen back as far as we have climbed and with a few results and performances the last half a year will be forgotten very quickly. I just want it forgot now.

Quite enjoying the feeling of not knowing WTF will happen in games now, even when we play pony sides. It was so boring us just rolling over most allcomers.

If the truth be known I don't really care about winning. Its the fight I want back. Although with the fight comes the wins I guess. Teams aren't scared of us right now. We've lost our power, physicality and the fact we would push full speed to the 95th minute cause we were fitter than everyone else.

All the above needs to come back. My worry is we as a team feel we are better than the underdog days now, which has changed our cause on the pitch.

As @Don Diaz said it not been that long a slump in the grand scheme of things but it's been a long stint for lack of effort on the pitch.
