The amount of hyperbole about this case at the moment is quite absurd. One thinks it'll take at least five to six more years before any kind of punishment will be seen, another thinks that the EFL will join with the Premier League in whatever they decide so City could be kicked out of all of football.

But then the main point people are making is that Everton were deducted 6 points for ONE financial breach and City have just been found guilty of 114 so it needs to be proportionate.

But "Apparantly " it's only really 3 or 4 charges, and there's loads of variations within those charges. So if Everton were deducted 6 points, City would get 20/24 points...or to put it simply...no European football for one season...

I don't think they'll get away with a rap on the knuckles, but whatever happens to them, they're going to be facing one loss of chance lawsuit after another for the next 20 years. For example, we finished one spot outside the CL four times during the period when the violations took place. I heard a football finance guy saying clubs get a £40 million windfall just from qualifying for CL. So that's almost £150 million from our club alone. Then you've got the teams they beat in cup finals, players missing out on bonuses, and on and on and on.

My take on the intra club lawsuits for opportunity loss is that they're bullshit. The PL has been lax on these things for years and City just took advantage better that the rest. Of course they shoild be severely punished but i do think it's a bit ridiculous for clubs to claim titles, higher placement because of another clubs supposed financial breaches. The issue is that the PL allowed a wealthy nation to own a club. And what we thought would happen did happen. All of the fallout from that decision was fully deserved. And i am sure many of the big clubs now crying went along with it for hope it drove up their clubs' valuations. All of the superleague clubs shoudl just shut up about it. Though i do think they should dock Everton again just for giggles.

It's a complete mess. The rest of the big European leagues are rolling around laughing at the PL, and justifiably so...
I think it'll have to be swift rejection of any appeal and straight to sentencing. Which should be 100 point deduction and an earth shattering fine...ie: relegation and a serious dent in the wallet.
Any other claims from other clubs regarding loss of earnings etc will be either taken from the massive fine they enforce on City and equally given to the 29 clubs that occupied the Premier league for that period or they'll just tell them all to do one.
I'd wager the latter.

This is all of their doing. They knew what City were doing. How could they not.
This might take the PL years to recover from this but the flip side means it might actually even the scales a little for other clubs trying to compete.

It'll come out that they were complicit and when it does the entire leagues integrity disappears overnight with all the finance it brings as well as potentially all the finances it probably ever had as sponsors look to sue them for damaging their brand...

I don't know if anything has ever come of it, but some of Southampton's own players were considering suing the club for missed opportunity at promotion bonuses, which I guess are pretty significant parts of their contracts at Championship level.

The slippery slope there is that could end the PL. Once the mudslinging starts, i feel there will be lots and lots of mud laying around. I don't think any of these clubs are truly honest brokers. Really, they'd be foolish if they were.

But i did just read a comment on a Times article that had a brilliant punishment. The idea is that you dock them say around 15 to 20 points for each of their next 7 seasons in the PL. Would almost certainly make it impossible for them to win, and Europe would be a stretch at best. A one year demotion to the Championship and they'll be back kn CL in 2 years. Basically, reset them to 2008. No sure if this idea is legal under FA rules but it is genius. Oh, and make them sell. Never should have been allowed to begin with.

Would that be a bad thing? If it were proven that the current governing body was not fit to manage the English League, then they would need to be replaced. Under the current UK Prime Minister, I would not be surprised if the government intervened and restructured the priorities to be more in line with genuine fans Vs profit, although nothing very revolutionary.

This could go any way....but as long as whatever happens, it happens quick so a line can be drawn...
This is what you get when a nation state owns you. It should never happen imo. And if the PL suffers as a result, if the salaries of players have to be cut sharply, if the revenues of the league are lowered, then so be it. I'm all for it.

The PL is a global sporting juggernaut. But although it transformed English club football off the back of the 70's and 80's hooligan fuelled times when half empty grounds and mud baths were the norm...
For the first 20 years, it was fantastic. The salaries were better, the ownership model was mainly British with some exceptions, and there was honesty and integrity in the game and some proper characters.
Now, the Premier league pays obscene salaries to average footballers and rewards mediocrity.
There's no full blooded tackles, the game is almost non contact these days, and watched by imported fans with their arm out with a phone videoing everything they can.
The season ticket holder is useless. They don't bring in enough, so they are being phased out and have been for a number of years now.
With all the foreign investment, they take in the best in class globally and the young British and Irish talents with nearly every club are being loaned out to championship or league one clubs or having to move across Europe to get a career going. And we wonder when we see the Scots, Welsh and Irish best 11's, they're mainly players from struggling sides with only the odd exception.
It's simply because only the exceptional get a sniff, while the potential get binned.
The PL has also resulted in the other 72 EFL clubs struggling to balance the books....many of whom are on the brink of extinction.
The whole thing has gone too far in the other direction. If this isn't a reason to pause for thought at the way we've let foreign investment in without questioning their motives, I don't know what will. Abramovic, the Saudi's, Taliban connections and on and on we go...
And with PSR, the elite will always be protected to ensure a "Leicester" will never happen again.

A lot of people do seem to think it'll be the largest fine ever levied against a club (£100m as a starting point) and a transfer ban for a few years.
