If the feds (such as Dorset : P) want to see what anybody is doing, they can regardless of any Internet Security measures a user takes.
How does a VPN work? When people send a letter to someone, no matter which country they live in, they include a postcode. This makes it easy for the postman to deliver the letter.
Every time you connect to the internet, your 'postcode' is beamed to all and sundry but, instead of being called a postcode, it's called an Internet Protocol (or IP).
It is as easy to find your computer's IP as it is for a postman to find a house through your Internet Service Provider (ISP),such as British Telecom, Comcast, Sky e.t.c.
A virtual private network (VPN) removes the postcode so the postman is proper screwed lol!
As far as performance enhancement with respect to streaming media, the results are negligible. That is to say; if you use a VPN, your internet will not be faster.
Are there any alternatives to using VPN? Yes there are but in terms of privacy, a VPN is a better option.
