Chelsea have announced that their plans to build a new stadium on the site of Stamford Bridge have been put on hold. Plans were unveiled in December 2015 to increase capacity of the ground from its current 41,600 to 60,00 with an ambitious new design.
But the club said on Thursday that £500m project was now on hold "due to to the current unfavourable investment climate" "Chelsea Football Club announces today that it has put its new stadium project on hold," their statement said. "No further pre-construction design and planning work will occur."
"The club does not have a time frame set for reconsideration of its decision."

Premier League clubs will have a winter break in February from the 2019-20 season.
The break will be staggered across two weeks, with five matches on the first weekend and five the following weekend.
The FA Cup fifth round will be moved to midweek to accommodate the break, with replays being scrapped at that stage.
The Football Association described it as "a significant moment for English football" that "will greatly benefit club and country".
"It's no secret that we have a very congested fixture calendar and over recent years we have been working with the whole game to find a solution," said FA chief executive Martin Glenn.
All three divisions of the English Football League (EFL) will remain unchanged, with a full programme of fixtures taking place on each of the weekends where there is a break.
A season of change
Winter breaks are already factored into schedules of the top leagues in Germany, France, Italy and Spain, though they all take place between December and January, which is the busiest period for Premier League teams.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said in January that the festive schedule was "killing" his players, while earlier in the 2017-18 season his Manchester United counterpart Jose Mourinho said the lack of a break was hampering English clubs' hopes in the Champions League.
However, former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger once said he would "cry" if a winter break was introduced. The Gunners played six games in 19 days during the festive period last season, the Frenchman's final one in charge.
The 2019-20 will be a season of even more change following the announcement that Amazon will show 20 Premier League matches a season for three years from 2019 after winning one of the final two broadcast packages.
The other unsold package of 20 games was bought by BT Sport for £90m.

Tottenham Hotspur to stay at Wembley for at least one match next season
Tottenham Hotspur are set to announce tomorrow that they will play at least one Premier League home game at Wembley next season due to delays in completing the construction of their new £850 million stadium.
The Times revealed last month that the club had secured the right to return to the national stadium for a handful of matches, having used Wembley as their home for all of last season, and that option has now been triggered, although the precise number of home games they are intending to move for remains unclear.
Tottenham are planning an announcement to coincide with tomorrow’s publication of next season’s Premier League fixtures, having been told by the League and the FA that they must inform them of their plans by the fixture release date.
The Premier League has given Tottenham the right to play their first three games away from home if required, as they have done to West Ham and Liverpool in recent seasons, but given that the club have given up on their new stadium being ready in time for the start of the next campaign they may opt to play at least one of these opening three fixtures at Wembley.
Tottenham have secured the right to play several matches at Wembley, but are not planning to disclose the precise number as the timeline of the stadium build remains fluid and they do not want to give any additional leeway to the construction team. The club are hoping to play their fifth match of the season at their new ground, when the Premier League resumes after the first international break on September 15, but are not in a position to guarantee that.
Tottenham’s ground and fixture-swapping plans have been endorsed by their Premier League rivals, with the league also willing to waive a rule that clubs must complete all of their home games at the same stadium, because of their willingness to support stadium improvements.
Tottenham will be given permission to play away in the third round of the Carabao Cup, and will be able to move a Champions League group game to Wembley if required.

Following the release of the fixtures for Season 2018/19 we are delighted to announce that we shall play our first home game at our new stadium on the weekend of 15/16 September 2018 against Liverpool.
As you will note there is a home fixture scheduled for the weekend of 18/19 August 2018 and this match will be played as a home fixture at Wembley Stadium. It was always our intention to seek permission to play the first few games away. In discussions with our Coaching staff the preference was to break what would otherwise have been a continuous run of away games with one game at what was effectively our 'home' stadium last season. Please see details below for season ticket holders and premium members in respect of tickets for this match.
We shall be scheduling several events preceding our first Premier League game in the new stadium to check and rehearse various operational aspects. Further details will be released in the coming weeks.
At this point in time, therefore, barring any significant issues with the final stages of stadium completion, scheduled events are proposed to take place as follows:
• 5 August – Operational test event at new stadium
• 11 August – Away to Newcastle United
• 18/19 August – Operational test event at new stadium
• 18 August – Home (Wembley Stadium) to Fulham
• 25/26 August – Operational test event at new stadium
• 25 August – Away to Manchester United
• 1 September – Away to Watford
• 1/2 September – Operational test event at new stadium

“I should also like to thank Richard Scudamore and the Board of the Premier League for having regard to exceptional circumstances, along with the Board of Watford for agreeing to reverse our fixture on Matchday 4 to an away game.

“We have held extensive scheduling discussions with Mace, our construction manager, and our lead sub-contractors. Our first operational test event will be held on 5 August.”

Wembley Ticketing – Existing and New Season Ticket Holders for 2018/19 Season
As one match of the new season will be played at Wembley – on the weekend of 18/19 August against Fulham – all those who have purchased season tickets at the new stadium, or who purchase in the coming weeks, will be credited 1/19th of the price you have paid for your 2018/19 season ticket. This process will be carried out automatically and requires no action from supporters.
Credit amounts will be placed into your eticket account and you will be able to access these funds to purchase a ticket for the match at Wembley or hold these funds in your account for future ticket purchases.
We shall shortly release on sale dates and details regarding tickets for the match at Wembley. Please note Stadium Access Cards for the Season 2017/18 will NOT work for this fixture.

Supporters who held a Wembley Pass for the 2017/18 season are advised that these tickets were only valid for the 2017/18 season and are no longer valid. These supporters will need to purchase individual match tickets during the One Hotspur members’ sale for each fixture.

You will automatically receive a credit note equal to 1/28th of your 2018/19 seasonal fee for the Premier League match to be played at Wembley on the weekend of 18/19 August, 28 being the average number of games in all competitions over the past five seasons. This amount will be deducted from your 2019/20 seasonal fee and a credit note to that effect will be placed into your Premium account and can be used for the match at Wembley or for future payments.
Executive Members who held a seasonal membership for the 2017/18 Season at Wembley will be given a priority period in which to take up an option on their previous Premium package for this match. This purchase is by no means compulsory.
Any new Executive Members for the 2018/19 Season who would like to discuss the Premium options that are available to them at Wembley will be able to do so once the priority period for previous Members has passed and full availability is confirmed.

I am no anti enic or a levy out by any means,but several times recently they have been less than open and honest when dealing with supporters,and I mean paying members,season ticket holders
Selling memberships/season tickets in may then what a week later announcing demolishion of the north east corner and moving STHs,reducng capacity enforcing a lucky dip ballot subsequently.I thought the year at wembley was managed pretty well but the pricing in NWHL and morely the premium 1182 seats in the south stand.And now this announcement,Levy is on a roll.
It wasnt the demolishion of the paxton corner or the 1 game at wembley,its the fact they know beforehand,sell to us and then tell of the change after the money is in the bank.I can understand if needs are to do something,but the lack of openness and suck it or else attitude isnt good even if you`re merely a customer,let alone a paying stakeholder in the club for decades.

I am not disagreeing but did they really know! Probably yes but in may when they made us pay were they really 100% knowing we would play at Wembley? I am not so sure! One thing is for sure.....they have shafted the fans and they have pissed me off! But we have best ground in europe, our so called wage structure is broken on the best striker in the world! So not saying i like levy but shit hes got it right
