Qatar World Cup farce 2022

So the Football Supporters Association was OK with the slave labor, the unexplained deaths, the corruption within FIFA that allowed Qatar to be chosen despite its obvious unsuitability, the repressive regime and the criminalization of LGBTQ+, but having no beer at the ground is unacceptable.

Not sure how credible this particular story is, partly because it plays on people's assumptions about South American football as much as Qatar's. Also Marca are notoriously full of shit. But I have predicted for months now that Qatar (who are, to be fair, currently the Asian Cup holders) will do suspiciously well in this tournament.

Hard to believe they'd spend all this money just to get humped in front of two billion people by a mediocre Ecuador side. Let's not forget that the worst Russian team since the breakup of the USSR made it to the quarterfinal of the last sportwashing extravaganza in 2018. And even that pales in comparison with Argentina '78, which was completely bent.

Now I have drawn Saudi Arabia in the office sweep.

This World Cup can suck my filthy.🤬

Same mate.

Got Saudi and Iran for fuck sake. Only saving grace we get money for first red card of the tournament. Iran are bound to sort that out for me.

The whole situation stinks, but I'll not be watching anyway as the Green and White Army didn't even make it.

This is serious now. Forgot about the state torture, murders, abuses of human rights, homophobia, mysogony, the bastards have only gone and banned the sale of alcohol in the stadiums.
Fuck FIFA, fuck Qatar, fuck the World Cup - it's all just a big steaming pile of corruption.

If someone thinks that hammering and criticising will achieve something, well I can tell you it will be exactly the opposite. It will close more doors.”
Yeah because fighting Hitler, protests, violence and women dying to get the vote, sanctions against Apartheid, the French Revolution, the American civil war, the Gay Liberation movement, Civil Rights leaders and protests etc. etc. didn't do fuck all did they? What a disgusting cunt, defending the evil Qatari regime because of.... 'oooh us Europeans were bad historically, so we should accept that these lovely Arab guys are bunging loads of money at us and forget about the workers that died, loads of people always die so we can enjoy football and gays can stop being gay for a few weeks then we can all go home and not have to worry about what these wonderful Qataris do'.

Killing migrant workers and imprisoning LGBT folks was one thing, but banning beer is a bridge too far. This will be the worst world cup in history.

Maybe he thought... "that knighthood ain't ever coming, so fuck it... $10,000,000 will make up for it".

To me it shows just how tone deaf the silly cunt is and that he has been receiving terrible advice.

Anyone with eyes in their head can see just how bent that state is and just how much they're trying to wash their reputation without actually doing anything to acknowledge their deficiencies and make reparations.

That knobhead from Fifa Whatabout'ing his life away yesterday was right in some regard. Europe was built on the backs of slaves (for slaves read migrant workers). But it has been acknowledged, it has changed and it was a long time ago.

Accepting it now and actively endorsing it by giving them a tournament they could never have delivered without the use of slaves and then not acting when it was highlighted years before the tournament began, is at best turning a blind eye and at worst complicit.

I think FIFA have actively endorsed all of the atrocious practices in delivering this World cup. And for that they should cease to exist.

If anyone is wondering about the quality of football analysis here in Upper Mexico, the announcer on Fox Sports just described Qatar as “well-drilled.”

Travesty that the Iranian doctors tried to allow their goalkeeper to continue after that collision. They have got to start having independent doctors making these decisions.

Honestly, to try and continue instead of coming off immediately may be seen as bravery in certain cultures. It’s almost showing the injury makes the decision and not the player. It happens all the time in the game, but yes, doctors need to take control more.

Okay, get Kane out of this game before he gets hurt.

Agreed, I’d say this is true in most sporting cultures.

FIFA have actually done something right (!!!) with the added concussion sub, but as you say, no player at this level wants to leave the game.

Berhalter out! Was channeling Conte 2nd half. Awful match all around but encouraging for England. They are going to stomp both these sides.

I thought we were excellent in the first 45, ran out of steam in the second, and Wales were good value for the draw.

Honestly thought it was a pretty good game, played at a good pace, with some proper challenges flying in from both sides. England were frighteningly good.

Today, like every 4 years, the best goalkeeper in the world will play….then disappear

At least for now, he's the number 1 for the most widely-supported club (probably in any sport) in the Western Hemisphere.
I don't understand geography. How can there be a western hemisphere? If I draw a line on the map, Portugal is west of me, so my house is in the east, but if I continue my line eastward then the next country I get to going east is Italy (I might just hit the bottom of the island called Sardinia, but really, a country called Sardineland? Nah, not having that) So, if I go Italy my house is in the west. It's fecking weird, I walk to Eastern Europe almost every day - our local Lidls is 'over the border' of the Greenwich meridian. Another stupid thing is if I wanted to go to Italy the long way,I could go west instead of east and still end up there.

John Herdman says everyone is available for this but don't know if Davies is 100%.
Honestly, just want Canada's usual determination & swagger.
Otherwise, the result doesn't really matter to me. Could be a royal thumping or a thrilling match.
We'll simply move on.

I wish Jan and Toby well in a very general sense, but I want them to accede to their role as elder statesmen for the next couple of hours.

Meaning, I hope we make them feel very old! Belgium outclass us by a wide margin, but sume hard running on the flanks, hunger up top, and no-nonsense lower-league stolidity at the back could make for yet another shock upset.

Avance les glorieux!

Canada need to get a goal here. Belgium is wobbling but it won't matter if you don't score. Might be time for McDavid.
