On My High Trojan Horse
Getting better? Have you been to Specsavers recently? We have been 'practising it' for fucking years - and we are still totally pony at it. The only consolation is that Vicario has to better with his feet than Hugo, and hopefully he will get better at reading the game and making quick decisions, but I hate it.
I disagree.
We are much better than in the past.
Vicario, Romero, Mickey, & Bissouma are much more confident, calm, & competent on the ball than Lloris, Dier, Davies, & Hojbjerg ever were. As I'm still not used to it, I will admit that at times, not only my heart but also my balls are in my mouth when they are pressed & pushing it around our 18.
Eventually my balls drop back down & with time, they'll stay down.

Congratulations, sir.

So what would you say is the alternative? If we just hoof it away then Ange’s entire system falls apart.

Duh, stupid thing to say. Of course I didn't suggest that. Like most things in life there is not just a binary option. Play it out or 'hoof it away'. There are times when either option or even different options like not passing 3m across the goal line while attacking players are lurking around and going a bit longer without 'hoofing'. When we are playing against quality opposition, and that includes teams like the goons, we get ourselves in terrible pickles fucking around in our own half - I have been to Specsavers and saw with my eyes the two clear cut opportunities we gave them (got lucky with them) and the many lesser chances we gifted them.

To be fair, both of those chances (the ones I think you are talking about) weren’t as a result of the system breaking down. They were clear errors:

1) Maddison was very lazy in receiving a perfectly good pass and got stripped.

2) Udogie played an awful pass.

It’s not as though Arsenal pressed and picked us apart. In my view the amount of chasing the scum had to do in trying to get the ball off us contributed to us finding holes in them once we got the ball transitioning into the middle third.

So whilst you are right in saying the answer is not binary my preference would be that we stick with what Ange is trying to do, remembering we are building a team capable of playing this way. Had we been playing with Dier and possibly Davies for example I’d err towards being more conservative in these situations.

If we're going to make mistakes in the back, let it be with the ball, not the lazy passive defending we saw Conte and Mourinho. Saying that, I'm sure BAP will be eager for us to clean up the passing back there, and I thought we mixed it up a little more and made better decisions in the second half against Arsenal.
