The Managerial Merry-Go-Round

I'd personally be reluctant to sell Rodon as I've always felt he could have some serious potential. But then we could always potentially send them Fatty as payment ..

I read earlier on that we're even supposedly willing to give him control over transfers and the choice of his own staff.

Seems unlikely, unless the club has consulted directly with Scott Munn, but I'd love it if it turned out to be true.
I'm not sure Id like Slot controlling transfers. I want the Moneyball, data driven approach, that can be continued despite managerial changes

The Moneyball approach could still be used. If we appoint a DoF who is willing to work like that, or is even well versed in a data driven approach, then he could work with Slot to determine targets and Slot could/would have final say on whether or not to move for that player.

I'm just a bit gobsmacked by this really. This is breaking this morning and being picked up by everyone ..

I do wonder if it's just him saying the right things before leaving so he doesn't come across as walking away from the club to join us ?

Well if you wanted any kind of confirmation from a credible source, here it is ..

Big blow re Slot, I think more than ever we need the Moneyball approach now, and concentrate on a coach not a big name manager.
Sure if a Nagelsmann comes along and wants to work within that system, great. But has to be system first, IMHO

Where's the surprise lads ? Seriously ?

If he doesn't break the bank and get someone like De Zerbi or i'd take Thomas Frank if he was interested..., we'll end up with a Potter or Rodgers.

I’m sort of surprised, just because the money must have been much better for a guy like Slot. I suppose now there will be a week or so of speculation about Ange Postecoglu or that guy from Sporting before they rebuff us.

What’s really funny/stupid about all this is that the club have known Tony wasn’t returning since probably December. Yet there is clearly no plan.

I am going to spell it out one more time...

NO ONE WANTS THIS JOB WITH LEVY AT THE WHEEL...

Fucking fire this bald moron already! He gets everything wrong. We are going to be the biggest mid-table team in history. If Levey stays, it will be a long time before we're decent again. We're going back to the 90, but without the great music and flannels.

Just got home.

Apparently the club were "stunned" when Feyenoord asked for £10m compensation for Slot and £5m for his staff and walked away. Slot was said to be still "very keen" on joining us even at that point but will now sign a new deal.

Of course with Nagelsmann still unemployed, we'll clearly be announcing the appointment of Brendan Rodgers imminently.

Yeah, Feyenoord were in a strong position. It also seems possible his agent was using Spurs interest to get more money. I just don't see how the club could have been stunned by that demand, because we were talking about it on here a week ago.

You know what that tells me? It tells me they don't think it really matters WHO manages the club. They think we're locked in for 4-7 no matter who's in charge, so why spend money? The lack of ambition is still staggering at times.

Feelings mutual Jose, but you should have been able to manage the cup final. Levy saved some pennies firing you before

Well, that and he would've found it more difficult to sack him if he'd actually won.

Yes, just read that and agreed with every word.

I’m now starting to think we’re going to repeat the Nuno situation with Ange Postecoglou.

He’s mates with Scott Munn after working together at Melbourne and I think they’re also part of the same management agency.

I wouldn’t be remotely surprised if Munn makes a call.

Postecoglou is a good, progressive manager. He’s classes above Nuno and the football would be attractive.

But he ain’t right for Spurs. He’d physically clip Levy after about 5 minutes but also does not have the name to attract the talent he is going to need.

I actually think he could be a good appointment. Poch didn't have the name to attract talent when he arrived either so I wouldn't be too concerned about that.
The only thing I'd worry about is how he'd get a response out of our squad after a poor performance with the pressure as it is in the PL compared to the SPL. Most games up there are bankers for Celtic so its alot less of an ask..
I'd prefer De Zerbi, Frank, or Nagelsmann. But the way it's shaping up its more likely to be Rodgers, Potter or Postecoglou.

I accept that Postecoglou has won honours during his career but he was managing for 25 years before he got the Celtic job. And let's face it, in Scottish Football I'd wager you could ask ChatGPT to manage Celtic and you'd still win the league.

It might work, but it just feels like that last-minute throw of the dice that got us Nuno last time for me.

Let's face it, most any manager we appoint is going to be a roll of the dice.

One thing about Postecoglu is that his tactics don't really suit the wingback-heavy squad we have. But he's quite a character, and he understands the importance of club culture, getting the supporters on board, and so on. I'd say the same about Frank--he's got the charisma to be the face of the club. Rodgers is a bit of a clown and Potter is just boring (though both, I think, are decent managers.) I'd think De Zerbi might want to keep his powder dry for another season or so, when a top job in Italy opens up.
