I think the sensible move for Kane would be to sign a new deal but insist on a minimum fee release clause that only he can trigger. If he does, it kicks in for, say, a month and he's free to leave if the fee is met.

If the Dark Lord tells him to fuck off then Kane just leaves for nothing next year.

To some extent, I've felt it may be best to sell Kane & fund a true rebuild like Poch said years ago.
