They are world champions after all. Right now you're comfortably better than the US or Mexico. Aside from the big names playing in Europe, I really like Shaffelburg, he looks better every time I see him play. The World Cup is coming at precisely the right time for Canada IMO--some good youngish players will be very much in their prime.

I had never heard of him until this Copa competition. Seemed to do better in the earlier games but struggled against The Argies (then again, so would I)
Marsch is doing a great job with this young team & in the short period he's been head coach, he has them playing against some of the top teams in the world (Netherlands, France, Argentina). It's an invaluable experience that all the players will benefit from.

Much better half from England. Was it a penalty? Dunno, Harry had already taken the shot so ... who knows? The Dutch goal should have been disallowed for a clear and obvious foul so, swings and roundabouts.

Nunez was also in the midst of the Colombian fans throwing haymakers (I'll let you make up your own jokes about him not actually hitting the target.) From a friend who was there and not far away, apparently the Colombian fans were taunting and throwing shit at the Uruguayan players' families, who had seats behind the bench.
So a bit like an Eric Dier situation, except it was half the team and it happened at a venue that was not remotely prepared for the kind of thing that can kick off at games like these. But yeah, half the Uruguay team will probably have to sit out a bunch of qualifiers and pay massive fines.

I will say that a lot of the Spanish-language football press are defending him and Nunez. Several players ran up to get family from the Colombian fans. No excuse for chucking a bottle, but I do think that in the moment the Uruguayan players legitimately feared for their families. Of course, the security at the stadium and the city police have basically no experience with shit like this, and it really could’ve been mitigated with foresight.

Meanwhile, back at the Euros..... I can't see 'it coming home' tomorrow, one semi-decent half of football from 6 matches does not make Southgate the new Messiah. Discounting penalty shootouts, England have won three of their matches, Spain won all 6. The England goal difference is 3, Spain's 10. Of course cup games can throw up surprises, nerves, pressure, mistakes, injuries, cards, dodgy refs all play a part, so they might not lose, I just hope it doesn't go to penalties, Harry missing again would be cruel!
