When I saw City in the friendly this summer in person I told my kids that they would win the league by 15 points. What's deceptive about De Bruyne is his athleticism and strength. I don't like anything about what Citeh represent, and tbh I find Pep to be an insufferable self-righteous prick. But there's no denying how brilliant their football has been for most of this season.
I watched some pretty in-depth highlights and tactical analysis of the game this morning, and like you say the long balls that Ederson played out were extraordinary, and hit at such pace that they (unavoidably) caught us out badly. I don't know if he was the difference in this game, but he's definitely a major difference between their team this year and last.
Yeah, they're an annoyingly brilliant team with a horrifying plan to dominate world football with all their farm teams across the world.
There's certainly an air of that about him and his comments about tactical fouling were hilarious to me but as a coach I certainly am interested in how he structures his teams and also how he coaches individual players (and I think that's a big thing with Poch too) whereas some of the other coaches like Mourinho and Wenger don't seem to do that on the same level. I found it incredible that no one had apparently got Sterling to work on his body shape/orientation/scanning to play a touch ahead on receiving the ball before (or at least not in a way that got through to him). How does that even happen?
