It would appear, yet again that Levy will go for a budget option, in the hope that he finds a gem. When what we really need in our new status and level of expectation as a top 4/Champions League club, is Levy to leave and a new wealthy owner to appoint an experienced progressive manager with CL experience and a budget to buy the tools (players) to do the job properly.
There's no real alternative in my view. The problem with Levy is that his view keeps getting reinforced by occasional successes, that he can't see the bigger picture from a footballing viewpoint. Getting a Van der Vaart, a Modric, a Bale, A Dele, a Kane, a Son and a Hojbjerg together with a Pochettino, papers over all the dross and wasted money on french wingers, Sissoko's, N'Dombele's, Soldado's, Auriers and Sanchez's etc. Add in the Mourinho debacle and you have the bigger malaise. He's still burned by the magnificent 7, when the Bale money was wasted on 7 average players rather than 3 world class ones. He needs to get over examples like that and more recently find a replacement fro Steve Hitchen and a better scouting network....Leicester seem to have one.
Football is moving on quickly, we didn't move with it last time, because Sugar was treating the club like cash cow for his failing Amstrad business and placating the fans with an occasional signing like Klinsmann (in modern day for Levy see Gareth Bale). Now that we've caught up and with the stadium moved ahead of the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, we need the investment quickly in the management and playing staff. I can't remember the former Juventus managers name, but someone like that, or Ancelotti, would get my vote. Along with a Jeff Bezos type character (sorry I'd always hoped we could be successful organically but I fear not now with the level of debt) or maybe the Qatari sovereign wealth fund (if we put human rights records to one side??
so maybe not).
But unless he changes completely and utterly Levy has to leave.
