I have not heard or read anything concerning VDV & his injury other than what Ange has said in pressers.
@ClemFandango seems to be more informed.

As long as he & Romero are not deliberately sitting out in protest of Ange...

There are some reports around that we have offered to make Romero our highest paid player and extend his contract.

Whether this is a serious long term play or concocted to give us leverage when selling is anybody’s guess. But it doesn’t seem like something that we’d do if the guy was staging a mutiny.

I don’t doubt these guys are injured but why the mixed messaging from the club?

We are all being gaslit.

That's very interesting.
Besides his body adjusting, he may need to "re-learn" how to run.

In my younger playing days, I always wanted to be the fittest player because I knew I wouldn't be the most talented. Always someone more skilled. So I trained hard. But I continually got hamstring & calf tears/strains.

The top sports physios & medical doctors that I saw simply tried to deal with the symptoms rather than the source. They kept hooking me up to machines to heal the damaged muscle.

After more than a decade of frustration, I found someone who was able to find the source of the problem which wasn't in my legs but rooted in my body's alignment. My right hip was ever so slightly higher & tilted forward than my left causing a misalignment of my leg muscles (some stretched more than others). However slight, it didn't take much for it to be physically disruptive. Specific exercises & yoga resolved the issues & haven't had a problem since (doesn't hurt that my daughter's a progressive kinesiologist).

At the highest of levels that VDV is at, these minor differences in degrees of misalignment must be even more pronounced with the demands involved, especially with Ange's style of play which demands more running & sprinting.

FWIW, when I was dealing with my muscle issues, I remember reading about AC Milan's player purchase / transfer policy. Before any player was brought in, he was put through an exhaustive physical which was so detailed that it included a test to see if their teeth were properly aligned. Because if they weren't, it would misalign their jaw, neck, shoulders, etc & all the way down to their feet which could cause future problems. That's when AC was on top of the footballing world.

This 100%. When I was marathoning I slowly learnt that my mobility was 100% linked to the way I ran, my ability to cope with tiredness, stress and the accumulation of fatigue improved hand over fist once I figured it out...

I dropped under 4 hrs for the distance when I dialed in my stretching and mobility and prioritised it as much as my running and strength... It did change the way I ran, I was historically a plodder who slowed up hills and this work allowed me to open my legs and attack hills (up and down) with the result of my fitness flying through previous plateaus.

I'd always been a stretching advocate when I cured my own chronic back (caused by powerlifting... badly) pain with a daily progressive stretching routine that replaced my weights regime...

Everyone who bemoans a bad back would benefit from increased mobility even if it didn't solve their issues 100%... Trouble is people are lazy and want an immediate fix.

Was talking to a doctor not long ago about this RE: my kid, who's having hip and hamstring issues, and he likened it to a car being slightly out of alignment--eventually causes damage elsewhere. Honestly, you'd think that medical staff (not just at Spurs) would've sussed it out earlier with VdV. He's still young, hopefully this is something he can fix.

Urgh .. the talk around Maddison is that his knee injury is "significant" and that his season is over. Scan results in the next day or so apparently.

There seems to be confirmation from everyone bar the club that Maddison is definitely done for the season and could potentially be looking at around 3 months for recovery.

It's said his knee doesn't require surgery and he should be fit for the start of next season.

I did read one comment that suggested it could have been leaked to expose "the mole"

What about Destiny Udogie's and Kota Takai’s fitness?

Kota's got plantar fascia unfortunately. I don’t know exactly the scale of it, weeks. Destiny has got a knee injury that we are assessing at the moment that just kept him out of the pre-season tour. When we know more, we will update more.

With the problems with injuries, how are you looking to improve that this season?

Of course I'm aware of the injury situation in Tottenham and I think it's a big thing for any club in the world. Availability is key. If you have availability close to 100%, which is difficult for your top players because there are more and more games. I think the games are going up.

But a couple of things. The good thing is that we've got a good and long pre-season. That means it's possible to push and pull the players. We are very aware how we want to play and how we want to train and I think that needs to be aligned completely to the style of play and the physical output of how we want to train.

So we need to make sure the players are robust enough and there's of course the gym sessions, recovery which is equally important and then there is that availability to be able to compete in all the tournaments. We are aware and a few adjustments and hopefully we will be successful there.

Who missed out

If you missed it, Destiny Udogie, Kota Takai and Manor Solomon remained at Hotspur Way for treatment, alongside Radu Dragusin, Dejan Kulusevski and Bryan Gil, who are continuing their rehabilitation. Mikey Moore, Alfie Devine and Dane Scarlett were all granted permission not to travel in order to explore potential opportunities for loan moves.

In Hong Kong, Dominic Solanke, who had a minor ankle injury which meant he missed out on the weekend's action at Luton, was not involved in the session, only emerging towards the end in trainers in order to take part in the signing session for some of the fans present.

Kevin Danso did some individual work during the session having come off alone on the hour mark on Saturday in the goalless draw at Luton. Rodrigo Bentancur, who was ill at the weekend, was back and involved.

What they did

After their warm-ups, the squad went through some passing drills and rondos. They were then put through some three-quarter pitch runs back and forth before the players took part in a 11 vs 11 half-pitch training game after that with two sides that involved four quarters of football.

There were little team talks beforehand as well with two members of the previous four-strong leadership group in each side. Cristian Romero and Guglielmo Vicario were in one team with Son Heung-min and James Maddison in the other.

After that there was a penalty shoot-out that ended up bearing little relation to a normal shoot-out and seemed to turn into spot kick practice but there was plenty to see from the session.

Porro and Tel concerns

Both teams wanted to win the game and there were some flashes of skill and some strong tackles going in. The latter was on display when Djed Spence caught Pedro Porro late after the Spaniard had passed the ball and left his fellow full-back writhing on the floor in agony for a while.

Porro got up and carried on but did look to have the slightest of limps later as he was walking out of the stadium on to the team coach.

The next person to have a training session scare was Mathys Tel. The Frenchman embarked on a few surging runs and during one of those he picked up a sore looking knock, seemingly to his knee.

That injury drew real concern from the group as everyone gathered around the 20-year-old in a circle as he lay on the floor and it took some time before he got up, heavily limping. Thankfully Tel appeared to run it off and later seemed fine when leaving the ground.

Really hope this is true.

Unrelated, I heard that prior to coming to Spurs Kolo Muani had never missed a senior game due to injury--he was apparently ill once for PSG. I think the same thing was true of Solanke.
