Pay the money and get him FFS. £40m is what you pay for a good keeper, that's it. Liverpool paid £65m for Allison. £40m for someone who's not only a very good keeper but very good on the ball too. A top keeper these days are worth their weight in gold imo.
£65m for a keeper who had three years left on his contract at the time

Take your point, but here's the thing..we either want him or we don't...so we hold out and try and get him for 20m less...meanwhile, Chelsea are looking for a keeper having announced that they're getting rid of 2 themselves and if he wanted him, Poch would be told to go get him, not to mention the satisfaction he'd get on putting one over on Levy...so who gets Raya then ?
Get a deal, absolutely, but get your man. Years and years of this bolloxing about haggling over and over has crippled this club on the pitch. Jesus we could've got Grealish for £25m or something like that ? But Levy wanted to pay less ?
There are far too many clubs with proper ambitions in this league now and have proper resources to back it up and are prepared to use those resources to get better and better. We have the resources but don't have the Chairman who will use that to our advantage on the pitch. Infuriating to say the least....but there you go. That's the dark Lord for you.

I would like if no one came in for him at their valuation and they had to pay two #1 goalies and then we got Raya for free in a year :)

I'd really like to see how you two would operate together.

Woah... who is being dicks... he is their player, thie asset...
I don’t disagree but, equally, he’s also an employee who wants to go and work somewhere else.

This is why I’ve always felt football contracts are a bit weird because a club - the employer - are well within their rights to make that as difficult as possible because players are seen, and signed, as assets rather than employees.

Apparently Brentwood are quite happy to sell him to us but aren’t budging on the fee.

We’re said to have offered in the region of £20m which I personally think is far more realistic for a player in the final year of his contract.

He is, and the Dark Lord has already made it clear he won’t be selling him at least to any premier league rivals so the same train of thought would certainly apply to him as well as he’s also an “asset”

I think we should spend 40m on Raya and seal the deal. Its crucial we get in a keeper and a CB, other positions for sure haggle over price

I don't disagree and I respect their right to value him as they see fit.

I refuse to feel that we are being held over a barrel for a goalie in the the last year of his contract, though.

So much depends on how much we can afford under FFP
Our last three years we have posted huge losses, I doubt thats sustainable as FFP bites harder.
The current financial year ends Jun 30. It may be we're running at a slight profit this year, but next year without Europe?

I was under the impression that we were in decent shape (compared to others) when it comes to debt/revenue, but I may be totally wrong about that. We do at least have a number of players we need to get rid of (and who want to leave) so that should fund at least some of our business.

Meanwhile Arsenal are somehow about to spend 100 million on Declan Rice...

Can't see us getting Maddison either with Newcastle looking for him but that's the reality of where we are.
As I've said, we're not in a position to haggle the fuck out of every cent for every player. Pay the money, get the player, and get the deals done fast before deeper pockets raise their heads.
Otherwise we'll be, yet again, filling our squad full of bargain basement deals...

Why anyone thinks this is going to be different from any transfer window we've ever experienced I don't know...

Based on what evidence... the best evidence of future events is past events...

When I see players in shirts who make a diference, know or not, that's when we have evidence of a change in tac...

Even if we do break from past approach it will take multiple windows to rebuild the squad. Also, we don't have a DOF yet, which (you'd think) would be a priority...

Re: DoF
I believe the club changed tack on this.
Once they got Ange, the DoF may not have been a priority.

Ange has had a great deal of success ID'ing players himself &, more pleasing to Levy, they're usually <15M.
Granted those have been in lesser leagues but it doesn't diminish the fact that he's done well in this regard.
Here, Levy is probably hoping that Ange can find those diamonds capable of playing in the Prem for under 30M.

Hi JS, I honestly don't know about the health of our debt revenue situation
I know we have one of the biggest debt numbers in the Prem because of the stadium. But its sustainable because the interest repayments arent that high, maybe 30m a year.
However, the depreciation costs are a lot higher, and player amortisation is also high, because of the relatively high net transfer spends recently
I dont know how real in cash terms are the large losses we've been been posting. I have read that depreciation losses arent like losing real money, but I'm no accountant
I guess we will adhere to FFP, and maybe someone can tell us how much money we're allowed to spend this summer.

We don't have to, but we run the risk of sanctions if we dont
Everton will be an interesting situation this year. City, who knows what will happen
I suspect we will adhere to FFP but lets see how it all pans out

This sums up the colosal job Ange wont be give funds or time to complete...

For me he has got it just about spot on. I'd sell Tanganga, I'd force Kane to sign a new deal but I'd start with all those listed in the sell section out the fucking door before June is done.
