Nope, you're pretty much correct. American parties have changed a lot over time, but are basically coalitions. This is a huge oversimplification, but each party has a "base" of reliable voters. The Democratic base is generally minorities, young people, (especially educated young people) and people of all ages who live in urban areas. Republicans are wealthy white people and rural whites. Then there's all the people that live in the suburban sprawl that surrounds every one of our major cities. They tend to be "swing voters," and both sides have to try to capture them in order to win national elections.

Overall, the country (definitely not me) is pretty far to the right of even the UK in terms of social programs, etc. A national healthcare system has been proposed many times here, and "Obamacare" is the closest we've gotten. Even some so-called "liberals" are leery about what always gets described as socialism. So the Democrats tend to have to wind their necks in a bit to avoid alienating so-called "moderate" voters. Then you have "single issue" voters--the anti-abortion crowd, the pro-gun people, etc. Basically, Democratic candidates tend to be dicks because the people they have to win over are dicks.

Of course, the party lines aren't set in stone. There is a pretty big revolt among Republicans who can't stand Trump. Biden is seen as a favorable candidate for people like that. And Black and Hispanic voters, which vote over 90% Dem, are highly motivated for this election. At the end of the day, if there was a high voter turnout across the nation, Republicans wouldn't stand a chance. This is why they're hard at work trying to make it more difficult to vote. Also, if they voted in higher numbers, politicians would have to listen to them, which, IMO, would move things in a more progressive direction.

My BMI is 25.4 I am 188cm tall and weigh 90 kg, down from 115 kgs in pre heart attack days and my highest when I used to do big time weight training was 20 stone or 127 kgs - according to the NHS I am overweight, true, I need to lose 5kgs, but the dumb BMI calculator says my healthy weight range goes down to 65kg! I would be a fucking skellingtone at that weight, last year I was down to 80kg with all the stress of moving and stuff and I looked like I was a fucking extra from the Walking Dead. But the upper level of healthy weight for my frame is OK and nobody should be much higher than that level.

If I was classed as obese -which I was when I was 115kg, losing 5 lbs ( 2.7kgs ) would still make me obese, losing 10 times that would make me around what I am now which is classed as overweight, so what is the fucking point of setting a 'goal' of losing 5 fucking pounds? Most lardy fuckers are morbidly obese, which for my height would mean over 140 kgs, those cunts would need to lose over 52 kgs to get down to the upper level of healthy weight - 115 pounds, not stupid, pathetic, wanky 5 pounds!
