Chelsea, who expect Aston Villa and Tottenham to bid for the 24-year-old, are not close to extending Gallagher’s contract and know they will be at risk of taking a financial hit if the situation is not resolved soon.

The club have a policy of selling players whose contracts are running out and are open to offers of at least £50m for the England international. Villa have opened talks with Chelsea over a deal for Gallagher and there is an expectation that Spurs will move for him.
Yet Gallagher, who could be a key player for England at Euro 2024, is not in a rush to leave Chelsea and sources around a potential deal with Villa believe he is ready to bide his time. The sense is that he will not be pressured into agreeing to a transfer that is not right for his career. Gallagher, who comes from a family of Chelsea supporters, is a firm favourite with the Stamford Bridge crowd and wants to maintain control over his future.
Chelsea’s position is equally understandable – they do not want to miss out on a potential transfer fee. Sales will increase their chances of avoiding a breach of the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability regulations, with any money received for Gallagher going down as pure profit because he is a product of the academy.
There is a sense within the club that Gallagher may not be suited to the possession football favoured by Chelsea’s new head coach, Enzo Maresca. Chelsea’s other midfield options include Moisés Caicedo, Enzo Fernández, Roméo Lavia, Lesley Ugochukwu, Andrey Santos and Carney Chukwuemeka. There has been no fallout between Chelsea and Gallagher, who captained the side on several occasions this season.
Unai Emery, Villa’s manager, loves Gallagher’s energetic style of play and is desperate to sign him. It is unclear whether Villa can afford £50m unless they make at least one key sale. Their financial position could be boosted by their qualification for the Champions League. An agreement could be easier if Chelsea pursue their interest in the Villa striker Jhon Durán.

Never really know what your going to get from the Eredivise, but he's 6ft tall, scored 18, assisted 10, fast and has a real good work ethic getting around the pitch.
Is he better than Richie though? Obviously he has age on his side but we really do need a 'right now' striker.

Lo Celso started for Argentina last night and played the full 90 minutes but he can't get in to a side ahead of Hojbjerg and Bissouma. I think we'll end up regretting letting him leave but it's certainly the best option for him at the moment.

World Cup-winning Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cristian Romero has been linked this week with interest from Real Madrid in a summer transfer
Despite weeks of positive quotes from the Argentine about his happiness with Ange Postecoglou and Spurs, a report out of his homeland has claimed that Real Madrid have contacted the north London club about the possibility of prising away the 26-year-old World Cup winner this summer.
football.london understands Tottenham are distancing themselves from any such reports linking the player with a move to the Spanish capital. Romero is currently on Argentina duty with Lionel Messi & Co, looking to retain the Copa America, which begins in the United States next Friday with the hosts taking on Canada in Atlanta.
There is a certain irony that this is the summer when Romero is being linked with a move to the Champions League winners because it is the most settled he has been at Tottenham since he arrived from Italian side Atalanta in August 2021, initially on loan before penning a permanent five-year contract the following year.
The 2022/23 season was a difficult one for the centre-back and there were concerns that he might push for a move with the club having gone through a chaotic campaign with Antonio Conte, Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason all taking charge of the team for spells. Romero claimed last summer that he received approaches to leave Tottenham but rejected them.
"I'm the first to hold my hands up and say it wasn't the best season but when I got offers from other clubs to move away for this coming season, I said no because I want to have my best years here. I really like the Premier League, I really like Tottenham and I want to be here for many more years to come," he said.
