Garnacho – who was the subject of bids from Chelsea and Napoli in January – was initially valued at between £60 million and £70 million by United. But the Argentina forward’s suitors believe he could now be snared for around £40 million with his position at Old Trafford increasingly untenable. Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are all thought to be monitoring his situation along with some clubs overseas although Garnacho’s preference is to stay in the Premier League.

Frank on further incomings

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank has said the club are "looking" in the market for further additions in the summer transfer window.
Spurs have already secured the signing of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham, as well as Kota Takai and Luka Vuskovic.
Kevin Danso
and Mathys Tel have also seen their initial loan moves converted to permanent deals.
Speaking in his first press conference since being appointed to the role, Frank commented on further incomings, saying: "There is no doubt that, if you want to compete in all tournaments, you need a competitive squad.
"There are a lot of competitive players in the squad already. The club is in the market and looking.
"What will happen, I will speak when a player comes into the building."

Tottenham would need to get at least one central midfielder out of the door before pushing through any interest in signing Bayern Munich's Joao Palhinha, football.london understands.

Spurs are looking to improve Thomas Frank's squad this summer for a season that brings with it a return to the Champions League. After last summer brought a flood of teenage signings alongside one senior transfer in Dominic Solanke, Tottenham are targeting more ready-made players this time around to ensure the new head coach can get off to a faster start across all competitions.

The 30-year-old ball winner's £46million switch to Germany has not been a successful one though so far with just six Bundesliga starts and only nine across all competitions for the Bavarian giants.

Palhinha was not helped in November last year when he suffered a torn muscle fibre in his right adductor while training with the Portugal national team. That kept him out of action for two-and-a-half months and was followed by an illness and a red card against Bochum with a subsequent one-game suspension and he struggled for minutes after that as Bayern won the Bundesliga.

At this month's Club World Cup in the USA, the Portuguese played just 45 minutes in the dead rubber final group stage defeat against Benfica.

Spurs' interest in Palhinha goes back to his Fulham days when he impressed across 79 appearances for the Cottagers, having almost joined Bayern in 2023 only for the London side to fail to find a replacement before that summer window shut.

football.london understands that while there is that interest in the experienced Bayern man and he is one of a number of candidates Spurs are looking at as a new defensive midfielder for the squad, there would first need to be at least one departure from an area of the squad that currently contains Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Bergvall, Pape Matar Sarr and Archie Gray, while James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski can also play in deeper roles as can potential signing Gibbs-White.

Bissouma and Bentancur are both approaching the final 11 months of their contracts, although it was notable that Frank mentioned wanting to fit the Uruguayan into his team this season in his first club interview. There has been plenty of talk of a new deal for Bentancur while Bissouma looks to be the odd man out after struggling to find consistency since arriving from Brighton in 2022.

Tottenham are also governed by club-trained homegrown issues which currently mean that with their bloated squad they have to attempt to squeeze 31 senior players into 21 spots in their Champions League squad and that's not including Gibbs-White.

There is also the price tag when it comes to Palhinha, who has been linked with other Premier League clubs. Reports in Germany suggest a fee anywhere between €25-30million (£22-26million) would be required, as Bayern look to recoup as much of what they paid Fulham as possible. That is a fee that would appear to go against Tottenham's policy of only spending bigger sums on younger players.

With the Portuguese now in his 30s and having played so little football last season, a loan with an option to buy will be a more appealing scenario for Spurs unless that price tag drops. Tottenham had some interest in Frank's former Brentford captain Christian Norgaard, but the 31-year-old moved to Arsenal in a deal worth only an initial £10million. The Dane had two years left on his contract compared to Palhinha's three but he had more Premier League experience than the former Fulham man.

Frank was asked in his first Tottenham press conference whether the club would look at more signings with English top flight experience.

"I think it’s a plus to have Premier League experience, I don’t think it’s the most important [thing]. For me when I look at a player, I think, is it a good player? The ability is most important. If it is a very good player I don’t think he has a problem playing in the Premier League," he said.

"I know it is very intense, very physical but I don’t think any problems for any player to play here. Of course, different times in careers, things like that, but not the only thing we’re looking into."

Frank has also made it clear that while he wants a strong squad, he needs to make decisions over which players need to leave in the weeks ahead.

"No doubt if you want to compete in all tournaments you need a competitive squad, a robust squad. There’s a lot of competitive players in the squad. It’s an exciting squad. There’s no doubt the club is in the market and looking. I would like to speak when a player comes in and not about the market," he said.

"It’s always a balance, the squad size, how big, how small should it be to compete. I know Tottenham. I know the players, I’ve seen a lot but I need to know them one to one, need to train them and getting input every single day about them to give me more knowledge. But if you want to compete you need to use the squad well."

One position Frank appeared to rule out for the mean time in the transfer market is another forward.

"I think the front three, four, depending on if we play with a 10 and a front three, with Dominic up there, I think Richarlison is a good striker, I know he’s been struggling with injuries, I think he was having a strong end to the season and was very important for the team to win the Europa League trophy," he said.

"Brennan, Kulusevski, I know he’s out for a little bit of a while but he’s still there, Maddison, Odobert, Mathys Tel and now Kudus. I think that’s a strong, creative frontline and I’m 100 per cent sure we will score a lot of goals."

I gotta say, this guy's got some balls. Basically saying i'm ignoring you because you're not an elite club. This guy is basically a transfer terrorist, but i kinda respect it. But I bet if Levy did this he'd probably have been arrested.

Nah, he fucked up by undervaluing the player, and now he's trying to pretend like it's some kind of principled stand. If the club he was being sold to was the issue, he should've listed eligible clubs in the contract. Fuck him.

This sounds very much like one of Levy's patented "gentleman's agreement" non-clause arrangements.

Manchester City have no plans to sign another midfielder this summer despite Morgan Gibbs-White being available for a reduced £60million fee.

The Blues held an interest in Gibbs-White towards the end of last season, but have since signed Rayan Cherki from Lyon for £31million and Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan for £46.3million.

Having completed those deals, they are happy with their midfield strength and are now focusing on exits. Kalvin Phillips, Jack Grealish, and James McAtee are set to move on. There is also a chance that one of Nico Gonzalez or Ilkay Gundogan will depart.

Forest had slapped a £100million asking price on Gibbs-White towards the end of last season, with the 25-year-old's performances fuelling their charge to European football and earning an England call-up.

City signed Reijnders and Cherki for a combined £77.3million in initial fees instead, but Gibbs-White's future was back on the agenda last week after Tottenham activated a £60million release clause in his City Ground contract.

He had been expected to complete a move to Spurs, but Forest reacted furiously to Tottenham having knowledge of that clause and threatened to report them to the Premier League for an alleged illegal approach.

It has since been claimed that Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis would now rather sell Gibbs-White to a different club and that he is hoping City will prove willing buyers and re-enter the race. But the Blues have no intention of doing so and have ended their interest in Gibbs-White.

Pep Guardiola's squad is already bloated, and director of football Hugo Viana is currently working on outgoings, with an intention of bringing the numbers down before the start of the Premier League season.

Ha, hope the lad now fucking digs his heels in and tells them to stop fucking about with his career...

Look, I don't know if we did (course we fucking did) anything wrong but to fuck this lad about is a piss take from his perspective... If he wants to go and we have bid enough just do the fucking deal...

I simply can't believe (I fucking can because he is a tight arsed cunt) that we had the temerity to bid the exact amount and not a couple of G's more to avoid all this fucking nonsense...

Again, it looks like Spurs being involved in football business fucking amature hour... Courtesy of that bald little cunt.

All true, but Marinakos is being a little petulant here. EVERYONE taps players up. Why would you put a bid in for a player unless you know he'd be interested in signing for you. It happens at every club ALL the time.

Levy's Levy but Marinakos is a complete head banger. He's the kind of character that would sell Gibbs White to Leyton Orient and pay his wages just to make his point.

Still think that deal's on but it needs to be sorted quickly for the player's sake. Fuck the other two cunts.....they deserve each other.

AUSTIN, Texas — Los Angeles FC is pushing hard to sign Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min in the summer window, according to multiple sources briefed on the discussions.

LAFC’s interest in Son has been previously reported, but the MLS team is pushing hard to bring the South Korean international to MLS in the coming weeks. One source said there has not yet been substantial movement toward any resolution, but talks continue and the hope in L.A. is that Son will be convinced to join the team for the rest of the 2025 season and beyond.

The MLS secondary window opens July 24 and runs through Aug. 21

Son, 33, seems to be outside of Tottenham boss Thomas Frank’s plans for Spurs — at least in his regular featured role. Asked recently about transfer speculation around the Spurs legend, Frank said it was a “tricky” situation.

“Right now, I have a player who is fully committed and training well, and will play tomorrow,” Frank said. “If a player has been at a club a long time, then there will always be a decision for the club to take.”

Son finally won a title with Spurs when they lifted the UEFA Europa League trophy in May. He finished as a Premier League runner-up in 2017 and a Champions League finalist in 2019 and was also beaten by Manchester City in the 2021 Carabao Cup final.

Spurs travel to Asia for a preseason tour this weekend, playing Arsenal in Hong Kong on July 31 and Newcastle in Seoul on Aug. 3. The Telegraph reported Son’s presence is key for Spurs due to a clause that would impact as much as 75% of their fee playing in Seoul if Son is not part of the touring squad.

Largely considered to be one of the top players in the Premier League over the last decade, Son would undoubtedly be one of the biggest signings in MLS history. The winger scored 10 or more goals in eight consecutive Premier League seasons. That streak was snapped last year when he finished with seven goals and nine assists in 30 appearances.

A hugely popular figure in South Korea and across Asia, Son would be an enormous commercial boost for LAFC in its home market, as well. Los Angeles is the metropolitan area with the largest Korean population in the U.S. (320,000),according to Pew Research Center, ranking ahead of New York (215,000) and Washington, D.C. (95,000) metro areas.

With Rodrigo de Paul set to sign in Miami, Son would also be the second major signing of the summer transfer window if LAFC is able to get the deal over the line. LAFC currently has two open designated player spots after mutually terminating its deal with Olivier Giroud.

Should he sign with LAFC, Son would be reunited with longtime Tottenham teammate Hugo Lloris. The French goalkeeper signed with LAFC in 2024 and has played 52 league games over the past season-plus.

LAFC currently sits in fifth place in the Western Conference but has multiple games in hand after participating in the FIFA Club World Cup.

He would be absolutely brilliant in MLS, and I know lots of Korean-Americans who would love to see him over here.

Like the time Wenger bid £1 over Suarez's clause and then got turned down🤣

I could actually see this being one of those cases with wider significance. Like, what's the point of a release clause if nobody's meant to know about it? Is this football or fucking ebay? Like you, I'm sure we did something unsavory, but this guy is a lunatic.

I have nothing against Forest, but now I think Steve Parrish might be on to something when he says they had something to do with the UEFA decision. Which is a bit rich considering that Marinakis also owns Olympiakos but has supposedly "stepped back" from an active role at Forest.

Tottenham Hotspur are working on a deal to sign Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich and have received enquiries from Los Angeles FC for club captain Son Heung-min.

Sources in Europe believe there is a strong possibility that Spurs will be able to reach an agreement for Palhinha, the former Fulham midfielder, but they may need to sell one of their existing players first.

The future of Son, meanwhile, has been uncertain throughout this summer and LAFC have concrete interest in the 33-year-old. While discussions have taken place between clubs, Spurs say no official bid has been made.

But Son’s situation is unlikely to be resolved until after the club’s pre-season tour, in large part because of the “key player clause” in their summer trip to South Korea.

Telegraph Sport reported earlier this week that Spurs would miss out on as much as 75 per cent of their fee for playing in Seoul if Son is not part of the touring squad.

Interest in Palhinha is also not expected to be finalised in advance of the Asia tour, which begins on Sunday. Spurs are well-stocked with central midfielders and would like one of their existing options to leave in order to create space for a move for Palhinha.

Yves Bissouma is regarded as the most likely candidate to depart the club, as he has now entered the final year of his contract in north London. He also plays in the same defensive midfield role as Palhinha.

Spurs are not alone among English clubs in admiring Palhinha, who moved to Bayern from Fulham last summer in a deal worth around £42 million. The 30-year-old has not been able to make the desired impact in Germany, in part because of fitness issues.

Telegraph Sport understands that Arsenal showed strong interest in Palhinha earlier this summer and explored the conditions of a possible deal, before instead pivoting to sign Brentford midfielder Christian Norgaard.

If Spurs are able to agree a permanent deal for Palhinha, it would mark the first time in almost a decade that they have paid a transfer fee for an outfielder aged 30 or older. The last time it happened was in the summer of 2017, when they bought striker Fernando Llorente from Swansea City.

In recent seasons, especially, Spurs have prioritised young talent. Indeed, they signed five teenagers last season.

A move for Palhinha would therefore represent a brief step away from this transfer policy. For that reason, it should probably be seen as an acceptance that Spurs are in need of more experience and leadership in the squad.

But their interest is also a reflection of Palhinha’s reputation and quality as a midfielder. During his two seasons in the Premier League with Fulham, he established himself as one of the most consistent and combative players in the division.

Few players in the Premier League in recent seasons have been as adept at reading the game and shutting down opposition attacks. On top form, Palhinha is a monstrous defensive presence in front of the defence, using his long legs to crunch into tackles and intercept passes.

He is perhaps less expansive on the ball than some managers would like (and this could have contributed to his struggles at Bayern) but there is no doubt that Palhinha would provide a steeliness and reliability that Spurs were so often missing last season.

If new head coach Thomas Frank is looking to make Spurs a more resilient and versatile team, then a player of Palhinha’s skill set would offer more flexibility and ruggedness. One can certainly imagine Frank being inclined to deploy Palhinha in midfield against teams such as Manchester City and Liverpool, for example.

Surely they'd have to move some players to make it happen--Luis Diaz, for example, maybe Gakpo. It is alarming to see them stockpiling all this talent, but I guess everybody else near the top last season is too.

We’re supposedly willing to let Mikey Moore go out on loan next season to get minutes and more experience.

It’s a good idea and would probably be an even better one if he went to West Brom to work with Ryan Mason.
