Before the final I was definitely one of those who thought he would leave no matter the result, but now it's Ange in. We'll see what happens next season.

I had reluctantly slunk my way over to the Ange Out corner of the bar, but I'm now eyeing my stool back at the other end. I always wanted it to work out, and I haven't felt genuine affection for a manager since Poch, but it's no fun getting tonked week after week for no good reason.

But the success - WHICH WILL BURN LIKE A FLAME FOR ALL TIME - happens to coincide with the disappearance of everything that made Ange who he was. I loved the grind-it-out nature of the last few European nights, but I don't want to see that every week. I want us flying out of the traps to astonish Man City, come from behind to slay Liverpool, and judiciously kick the gooners when they need it. Even the high line nine men against Chelsea.

But can we have both? Doubtful. But, I think it comes down to the fact that we now have a battle-hardened, cohesive squad who have seen that Ange can get them where they need to go. We gotta keep him, build the squad, and see where it goes. The board will likely consider other candidates - and rightly so - but Ange should be top of the list.

And COYfS!

Here’s the thing and why I am almost certain Ange won’t be sacked. He will have had at least a weekly meeting with Levy throughout the season. In January, in the middle of the injury crisis there would have had to be a mutual agreement that we target the Europa and sacrifice the League (obviously avoiding relegation). There is no way Levy didn’t buy into that otherwise Ange would have been sacked months ago for disobeying the Chairman.

Levy must have been aligned. No question at all.

Can’t fire a coach on the back end of a euro cup. Sends a bad message to future managers.
It’s probably the first tweet of many for this nonsense.

I’ve just read another one that claims his future still won’t be resolved before he heads off on holiday because Levy is still undecided about whether or not he should “stick or twist”.

The sad thing is that Levy has already proved that he can become starstruck if a “big” name becomes available so I don’t doubt if that happened here then Ange would be out of the door quicker than a hiccup.

☝🏼That is the crux of this... If anyone better (in Levy's opinion) becomes available or is potentially available... He will try to alienate them with derisory offers and penny pinching tactics before he makes a decision on Ange.

I don't think he'll be sacked, but he'll be on a very short leash next season. That would be the right step IMO.

Honestly, I just want to see some consistency, even if that means we don't kick on immediately. Our policy over the last year or so seems to be youth first, and if that's what it is, I can get behind it.

The list of players openly backing Ange is getting longer. Maddison, Son, Romero (just that I've read.) Now here's Bergvall and Gray from football.london:
"A hundred per cent [he should stay], I think he’s done a great job," Bergvall told Sky Sports. "It’s not been easy for any of us, especially because of all the injuries, but as he said, he always wins things in his second year and that’s true."

When Gray was asked if Postecoglou should get a third season, the midfielder had no hesitation in responding: "Yes, definitely. It’s been a great season this year and it’s been a roller coaster of a season as well, not just at the end. We’ve obviously had some really tough times and we stuck together. He’s big on things like family and I think the main thing that helped us get to the final and win the final is our morals of what we’re like as a team. Like I said, family is our main thing. We believe in each other and it’s like brothers going out there on the pitch in the final and we just fought for each other."

And Levy is still being Levy by not making any kind of definitive decision on his future yet as well as clearly having no clue as to any potential transfer targets.

He doesn't have to, he's under contract...

If he makes a decision... It'll be to sack him...!!!

I dont know, I'm obviously in the minority on here regards Ange. I dont understand how we could consider keeping a manager who has delivered 22 defeats in the league, finished 17th and become the first club in the history of the PL NOT to have gone down with that amount of losses. We had a great cup run. He's had 2 years, 4 windows, spent nearly €447m on players and has made us significantly worse.
Surely we can't ignore that ? Surely we can't hide behind the EL and say he's done a great job ? Really ?

Apart from the sentimentality of the Europa League win, which was fantastic....and the fact that he's a nice bloke, Somebody explain why he would be given more time....

But regardless....Levy's a cunt.

Honestly I don't have a rational response to this, because it's pretty much exactly where I stood before the EL final.

After that, though, it's sort of heart vs. brain for me. Brain tells me you're right, heart says fuck it, let's give the guy a chance to do it.

I see problems. If Levy gets rid of Ange then I could see a dressing room backlash, maybe reminiscent of when Sugar got rid of Venables. If he keeps him then, unless we start off well, he will be itching to get rid at the earliest opportunity, say October/November which is never ideal.

Hasn't he had the chance though ?
2 seasons, 4 windows, and nearly €450m on players ?
And we finished 17th ?

Maybe I'm missing something here. Anyway, if he does stay I'd be happy to back him regardless.

For the feel-good aspect and because I really like the guy, I want Ange to stay. Objectively, he was over his head in the PL and should be fired. BUT...who the hell would coach this club? Almost best to ride with Ange and really back him. It's at least conceivable that he inspires us to greater things despite his shortcomings. Belief is a powerful thing. Now Levy needs to act like A European champion and sign some players that Danny Rose doesn't have to Google.

Mate, I think what has been overlooked by many is that there was clearly a board backed decision made by Ange in January (or thereabouts) that given the injury crisis we had to put all of our eggs in one basket.

At that point it was patently obvious the only way back into Europe was by winning a cup. At that point it didn’t really matter whether we finished 7th or 17th. The chips were in and fortunately, or rather through good management our number came up.

We are not the 17th best team in England. Only an idiot or an Arsenal supporter believes that. But again once it became impossible to field anything close to our best team, the only thing that mattered was avoiding relegation and securing a trophy. We were never realistically in a relegation fight. We secured enough points months ago. So in reality, all of the late season losses are irrelevant. We were sacrificing the league for a legitimate shot at a European cup and entry into next season’s Champions League. People crying that we finished 17th are completely disregarding the entire context of that.

In fact, on reflection I would argue that winning that final proves that both the squad and the manager have evolved. We went into that final without Kulusevski, Maddison and Bergvall. We went into that final with a barely fit Romero, a barely fit Son, a barely fit VdV and a barely fit Richarlison. To win that trophy is truly an astonishing achievement. And it only happens because Ange had the stones to make an early decision on where our priorities needed to lie. And it only happens because he was able to get the players to buy into a complete change in how we played along the way.

Make no mistake, we made a big leap forward this season. We learned how to win under incredible adversity. And we have the manager to thank for that.

Eventually, he was able to adapt. His style of play evolved in the EL & he brought a more pragmatic approach to that competition.

I simply don't understand why he didn't do so in the Prem as it was an option even though he wasn't utilizing the same players.

Ok, so let's say you're absolutely correct in what you think happened, which is Levy and Ange sat down on Feb 1st and said let's forget the league and put all our eggs in the EL....but what about what happened before that...because my observations are over the whole season, and even as far as the second half of last season.
Before Feb we had home defeats to Leicester and Ipswich...2 sides that couldn't beat a rug, in which we were out fought and outplayed, and a Cup tie against Tamworth where we couldn't break a part time club down for 90 mins and all with a fit squad.
And don't even get me started on the treatment of the likes of Archie Gray once Romero was declared fit, or the fact that Udogie is constantly favoured ahead of Spence ? Why was Sonny continuously picked when he clearly can't do it anymore ? And we had options....

It's not just about the last 8/10 games mate. The 17th place finish means nothing really, if we finished 12th, would it make a difference ? Not really. But our bread & butter league form since half way through last season has been poor and inconsistent. Yep, there were wins at City and Utd etc...but also alot of desperate performances where we just couldn't do the basics right and quite frankly, looked disorganised.
Our cup run was amazing. Fair play to Ange. I genuinely mean that. He was taking it from all sides and he got the job done. Buts its a cup. And let's have it right.. with not much quality to beat on the way.
But look, i'm not on a mission here or have anything against Ange...but i do question his ability at this level on a "consistent basis"....if Levy decides to stick instead of twist, I hope he becomes the most successful manager in our history.
Why wouldn't I? If within 3 years, we're up there competing in the top 4 consistently and maybe challenging for a title with Ange in the dugout, ill be happy to eat humble pie with cream on top.

Levy's still a complete cunt though...

Whatever your opinion of Ange out/in, why is this even an issue? The club knew for a long time that we’d finish very low, but that we had a chance to win the EL. So if it was just about Ange it could’ve been done already. The only thing I can imagine is that the decision is about what other managers might be available/interested.

He's gone...!!!

I can't find a link, but it apparently happened about 30 mins ago (according to the grapevine).

If so, thanks for the cup win and a few games of absolute brilliance... I'll forget the rest with time.

Nothing on Twitter yet but there’s been enough traction on this today to make me think it’s happening which is a fucking disgrace.

Yeah the League form was unacceptable but the man delivered one of the best nights we’ve ever had as fans.

If this does happen then Levy has lost the right to talk about “glory” and to even think about “To Dare is to Do”.

"one swallow doesn't make a summer" is the phrase that keeps ringing through my head when it comes to Ange and our new need for a trophy cabinet...

I think in the balance of everything being considered, if this decision has been taken, and we can start a fresh next term still basking in our triumph, you cannot be surprised that this has happened or too pissed off when you consider just how fucking terrible we have been.

I personally was prepared to swallow 10'ish games next season to see if we could do things differently...

But I'm not particularly surprised or bothered that the decision has been taken to try something else.

It'd have been a nice fairy tail, from the brink of relegation... (let's not all kid ourselves, if it wasn't for the chasm between the Championship sides and the Prem, we'd have been gone) to Premier league glory...

Alas, it seems we'll never find out.
