Who was the Cameroon bloke who nearly knocked us out, he was about 43 apparently and danced with the corner flag!!

Yep, Roger Milla (or Miller, depending on who is saying/spelling it). The guy was a gun. Still regarded as the best African footballer of all time and played the game the way it should be played.

Living legend.

Davinson was horrible against Japan. I wouldn't be surprised if he was dropped for Colombia's next game. He was directly culpable for the early goal and his teammate's red card. He was also stood up time and time again by his Japanese opponent.

That 2nd senegal goal was a bit of a cock up by the ref wasnt it?not great timing to wave a player on to have a 1 on 1 with the keeper, even though I loved how daft schezney looked !!

Messi is done at international level. It all looks too much for him.

I feel dirty saying this but I am now of the opinion that CR7 is the greater player. His CV is better and he is still performing at a premium level for his country.

Both of them are miles behind Pele and Maradona though.

The next person who tells me that coaches, team training, balance and cohesion, and preparation aren't important, that it's just a matter of putting good players out there on the park together, I shall just show them Argentina's 2018 World Cup games.

Spot on. Look at the way Iceland plays as a prime example of cohesion. A country of 400,000 people and very few full time professionals but they play with passion and they play for each other.

Argentina has a truckload of big names who have no idea how to play football together. Mind you, if you have a steaming turd like Caballero at the back then you are always likely to leak goals. He is the Argentinian Karius.

Well Croatia looked fucking awesome. If there is any truth in Ratfishboy returning to us for a few seasons then fuck me that would be some signing. The bloke is a fucking magician. His pal Prajnic (I think),who plays next to him is a fucking worldie too. Lovely to see them roll out the Rolls Royce of defenders for a few minutes at the end too. Corluka had some utterly Jizz worthy games for us at LB. From memory do I remember seeing him stick Ronaldo in his pocket for a full 90 mins when the lad was on fire scoring goal after goal after goal from the right? I remember being shit scared that the pace would kill Charlie as he is far from blessed and he simply bossed the little, orrange, wonky toothed, cunt for the whole game. I could be making this all up, but I'm sure somthing like it happened. Anyway the Modders story popped up in an evening standard advert on Google... so probably utter horse manure but a lovely thought.
Edit* talk shite running with it too apparently. https://talksport.com/football/388446/tottenham-transfer-news-luka-modric-offer-real-madrid/amp/

Agree completely. Messi has spent his career in an epic barca team. The guy is phenomenal no doubt, but Ronaldo can take a game by the scruff of the neck even with an average Portugal squad around him.

Messi is like the player version of Guardiola.. What if you take away the ideals he is used to?! Messi has had xavi and Iniesta giving him the ball his whole career, and Guardiola has had bucket loads of money everywhere he went. No doubting eithers ability but there's always the what if.

I just always think of Ronaldo as being a bell end though.

If the rumored starting lineup for England is true then I’m disappointed in Southgate for starting Sterling again, even if Dele couldn’t make the XI due to fitness. Rashford is such a more enticing option.

Good for England to have qualified for the knockouts. The real test will come in the final group match as everyone already knows. It will be good for England to have this game as a gauge before the knockout rounds. Kane with a funny hat trick but hey take em where you get em.

2nd place apparently is offering the easiest route to the semi finals it seems.

Do you think that either team will be wanting to lose this game though? I’d argue the momentum of winning such a game is more important than having the easier path. If you want to win you have to play the best teams at one stage or another.

not at all!!
Looks likely 1st in the group plays either germany or brazil and 2nd place swiss or mexico ,but likely rarely happens and such small margins.
BTW our GD is exactly the same, england have 2 yellows and belgium 3 which is how a draw would seperate them.If fair play was level its drawing lots.

Is that really how they decide it? By yellow cards??

Yes, kinda silly, but I guess its better than a coin flip. Would be funny if they decided it was better to finish second, could be both teams kicking each other up in the air for 90 minutes to get booked.

Does anyone else kinda sense that the pressure to carry the WC hopes of their nations is getting to guys like Messi & Neymar while Ronaldo seems to thrive on it?

Yeah I think the difference is that Ronaldo expects to carry his team Portugal would be shit without him but Brasil and Argentina should be good even without Neymar and Messi....

Alladyce actually said if he was still manager he would have taken less goals against panama and a draw with belgium cos 2nd is a better route and you have to look ahead, like he was a genius.
I dont agree with any kind of match fixing,or taking a yellow card to clear them and miss a meaningless game, its all against the spirit of the game and should be massively punished if it happens.
