Danny Rose has admitted he was “fuming” to be left out of the north London derby but played down rumours of a bust-up with Mauricio Pochettino.
The defender was restored to Tottenham’s starting line-up for last night’s 2-1 victory here at Borussia Dortmund, a result which secured top spot in Champions League Group H.

Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son scored Spurs’ goals but much of the attention was on Rose after he was omitted from the squad against Arsenal last Saturday, with Pochettino urging him to focus on training with the reserves to rebuild his fitness.
Rose, 27, had been out for eight months with a knee injury, during which time he expressed his frustration at his £65,000-a-week wage and Tottenham’s transfer activity, before returning to action in October. He started the Premier League match against Crystal Palace prior to the international break before appearing in both England friendlies, making his subsequent absence at Emirates Stadium a surprise to many.
Speaking for the first time about being dropped, Rose said: “My reaction was I was fuming, I was angry. But understanding, at the same time. There has been no bust-up, there has been no argument. There has been no falling out. The manager explained he thought it’d be better for me to do a hard session on Saturday, which I did.

“I understand there have been a lot of reports but they are not welcomed and they are not true.

“And whether I’d been at the Emirates or not, everybody’s losing sight that I couldn’t have stopped the referee or linesman from making bad decisions that led to us conceding.”

Asked whether he felt fit to play against the Gunners, Rose said: “I don’t know. Whatever fitness I have, I still feel I’m one of the best in the League, I believe in my ability.

“At Tottenham, you have to have an exceptional level of fitness. I’m not there yet because I’ve been out for a long time. I’m still catching up.

“I wasn’t happy [with being left out] but it’s gone now, we all have to move on. When I get the opportunity to play, like I did last night, I have to try to do as well as I can.”
Speculation persisted over the weekend that Rose could make a £40million move to Manchester United in the January transfer window but the left-back (left, in action last night) told Standard Sport: “I’ve said in most interviews I’ve done this season that I want to contribute to Tottenham winning something this season.

“Nothing has changed. Everyone just needs to understand that me and the manager want the same thing for this season: we want to win something.
“So I’m on the same page, I’m fully focused on playing as many games as I can for Tottenham, contributing to something beautiful, successful this season.

“And again, there has been no bust-up, no falling-out, and I’m on the same page as the staff.”

Rose came through a slow start to impress last night, mirroring Tottenham’s performance collectively as they recovered from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 31st-minute opener to score two second-half goals.

Last night was Rose’s sixth appearance since coming back from injury and he said: “Before last night, I thought I was close [to full fitness] and then in the first half I was horrendous, I thought I was getting hooked at half-time.

“It gave me a bit of a reality check, maybe I’m not as close as I thought I was. Second half I did better, I contributed quite a lot. I just hope I can get many more minutes, there are a lot of games now over the next six weeks and I hope I can play a part in as many as possible.
“Under this manager we’ve always had a good late November, good December, and I hope that continues and I hope I can be a part of that.
“You can only get fit by playing games. There are only so many training sessions you can do.
“I don’t think I’m far off but I hope I can play as many more games to help me get there as quick as possible.

“The knee feels pretty good. In the last 10 minutes, I felt my knee was getting a bit stiff but it was nothing serious. Now I need to recover and be ready for the weekend.”
How me times did he say "for thissss sssseassson" said in a Gollum-like snake voice? Sounds like one of those poxy politicians when you ask them question.

Many I'd guess at 65% sang his name last night at Dortmund. But not all of us.

Id say he's gone in the Summer, might be wrong, but he's being very open and clearly not looking too far into the future. I think he'll play his socks off at every opportunity for a Summer move, maybe to United. Shame, but you can't galvanise everyone I guess - Walker and Rose maybe the two exceptions? Toby needs a new contract as well.
Rose needs to put a good shift in if he wants to go to the world cup, have that in our favour to motivate him,tho I am sure Poch is capable.

A couple of quotes from Poch regarding Rose being 'fuming'...

"I'm happy, his performance is good. Nothing to complain about his behaviour.

"He never showed that feeling to me. That is why I was surprised. The day before we had a conversation and he never showed me that he was angry. Of course disappointed, but I understand that after he was angry.

"I like when the player feels that emotion because it means they're interested in helping the team and they want to play. In front of me he was never upset or angry, he never showed that behaviour, he was normal.

"You can ask me about all the players involved. Of course they are 'fuming'. But I am the boss, that is the problem for the players."

I'm glad he reiterated that he is the boss and at the end of the day he calls the shots. I have no issue with Rose being 'fuming' at missing out on playing but it's very interesting that he didn't show that emotion in front of Poch... Just seems like Rose does all his shit talking to the media every time rather than going through the proper channels - i.e. the club/Levy/Poch. Same thing as his infamous spout in the transfer window - he claimed how he isn't afraid to say what he thinks to those of importance at the club.. Well either he has no brain and suffers tremendously from blabbermouth whenever he does an interview or he is a snake who only says shit in the media behind Poch's back etc to either prove a point or just be a general dick. Or maybe a bit of both? The club should ban him from doing pressers.

Gotta say, I'm really tired of Rose's shite now and hope it gets concluded in the January window.. No doubting his unbelievable talent and it's a big shame because he was a fan favourite not long ago but he's spoilt it imo and I just cba to listen to his drivel or look at his ridiculous haircut. No doubt if we were to sell him the usual idiots would say we are a selling club and sell our best players. Well I think it's actually quite the opposite message that I receive as a fan in this case (and Walkers). I would see it as us saying "we don't need you or have to put up with your bullshit, we're at a level now where we don't have to desperately hold on to certain players despite them being cocks." Sack him off, show the full faith in Davies (which he has earnt imo) and bring in Sessegnon.

I saw the interview post match dortmund, and how he was speaking doesnt come across the same when read in black&white. But when in hole......stop digging.
Same media types were suggesting he stormed out pre NLD,after a row with Poch over team selection.(Then writing he was off to city or united).Low and behold he played a key game 3 days later. Now I agree rose will go most likely&rightly, not because of his views, but the simple fact the group and harmony is more important. And that has to be the case even if he is being misrepresnted in the media some what. The story shouldnt be about danny rose and his issues,it should be about how good we were in germany, and not feeding this sell all the players cos tottenham wont pay em what their worth bollocks.Wasnt quite the narritive about leicesters players,or burnley now,or anyone else ever. They will use and have done rose`s comments to drive a wedge, for what reason fuck knows, fucking fairytale anyone else punches above their weight, but us?.That is the issue, giving the media fuel to try&burn us with, not what danny has said or feels about the situation.

Only Poch and Rose know what's really going on...and Poch will make the right decision in the Summer. It's been partly proved that you can lose a good full back in Walker and potentially replace at £25m cheaper with Aurier, and that doesn't include the great service from Trippier to Kane either. There's very little to worry about here whatever Poch and or Rose decides.

This is my point,we just beat dortmund,we are chasing the title/top4 and todays press conference becomes about Rose to an extent. Here is the full transcript of Poch on Rose,it doesnt even sound like an issue, unless you are searching for a story.

Danny Rose – were you pleased with him on and off the pitch?
Very pleased. I think it’s no issue. Always when you take decisions about the starting XI and the 18 players in the squad, the players that are not in the squad and who are not involved and not playing regularly are not happy. But that is normal. That is not news to reflect, because the players wants to play. Every player wants to play and when they’re not involved or in the starting XI always they’re upset or not happy. But that is normal. I am happy. His performance was good and there’s nothing to complain about with his behaviour.
He said he was fuming - did he show that?
No he never showed that feeling to me. That’s why it surprised me when you asked me, because the day before we had a conversation and he never showed me that he was angry. Of course, disappointed, yes, because all the players always want to be involved in the game. I understand if after he was angry, like other players who do not play, and I like it when players feel that emotion because it looks like they’re interested in helping the team and want to play.”

He confirmed the other day that he was never upset or angry in front of me and never showed this emotion. He was normal, his behaviour. You can ask me about him or GK Nkoudou, who wasn’t involved, or Paulo Gazzaniga or Kieran Trippier or Ben Davies. If you say they were upset? Of course. They were disappointed? Of course. They were angry, fuming? Of course because they want to play, Michel Vorm the same. But I am the boss. That is the problem for the players.

Will Danny Rose be at Spurs next season?
I think it’s not a moment to talk about that. All the players have contracts with us, they’re all involved in our project. Now you cannot guess what’s going to happen in the future, and with myself it’s the same. You know better than me, it’s a different part of the business of football. You are the boss for something. For another, you need to negotiate or look for another side. There’s many things that happen in football. The most important thing now is everyone needs to be involved and feel part of the project, and what happens is going to happen in the future we cannot guess – in different situations, not only him but with different players, staff and decisions from the club. It’s about arriving at the moment and taking the best decision for the club.

And then the next big stick to hit spurs with was several questions about playing at wembley, does it feel like home,is there an issue playing smaller teams there blah blah blah blah.
Why is Rose even an issue?well because of him airing his frustrations to the sun in the summer, and making it a story, not the post dortmund interview to tv which all players do,if he hadnt gobbed off in the summer they wouldnt set him&Poch up for questions about it.
Fact is Pochettino (see i am getting serious here using his full name!) spoke immediatly after the dortmund game (in which Rose did ok,they,as usual with Poch&all players, had a handshake and embrace) so No Rose question came up,so Poch brought it up&said he did well.

Sounds like I am defending danny,I am not,but the media are setting the whole narrative here, when did it ever become any club doesnt pay enough (fuck that no one says its obscene how much players are on at chelsea, city, united),its only become a story since Rose spoke, and motd, sky, btsport, written press, even many fans now keep saying "pay em what they are worth".It isnt, wasnt a story until..........

I thought Danny did well against Dortmund last week, tough start to the game but grew into it and looked better as the game went on, it's gonna take time to get back to his best after the time he's been out but there will be plenty of game time with the run of games coming up! Maybe even enough time for redemption....

I sort of agree with most of that, but calling it a 'war' and saying the Poch has 'punished' Rose is going a bit far. I think Ben Davies has been flipping triffic and proved himself worthy of the number one spot, he is not a backup he is our preferred left back. If Ben's form drops, or he gobs off the Sun and Danny makes a grovelling apology, takes a huge pay cut and has to clean all the bogs after every game for a month, and shows the Poch that he is fully fit and back to playing at the level he did last season, then he'll start. He is still a cunt though.

Yeh, decent article alright. My own take on it was that Rose was just plain stupid to mouth off when he did, it showed a lack of professional maturity imo. Also, it was disrespectful to Davies and to the rest of the squad. I think Danny boy just got a little ahead of himself. As the article said, he's missing some of the biggest games of his career. First choice for games vs Rochdale, second choice vs the Juve's of the world. Knuckle down son and keep your mouth shut. Not that he gives a fuck about my opinion but he's gone down in my estimation a bit.

.Not suprised really, because his reaction and the speaking out last year was out of the normal for a player in his position.Mental health is an unspeakable problem,it is good some high profile people are opening up about it.I hope danny gets the help and finds his way back, though it is starting to look like he has if he can be open&honest about it.

That's all a bit of a shock and perhaps tells us that we shouldn't be so quick to judge, although my sympathy, for the anti Spurs outburst bit, is still limited. I do however 100% wish him well for a full recovery and to get back where he was prior to the injury in his private and professional life. Seems that this affects many players and good that it's become something that more people are aware of - I hope Lennon is back to his former self at Burnley.

Two of the best performances in his career (and that's saying something, he's had a few stormers) at the Camp Nou and at the Emirates. I love Davies, and think he might actually be a better CB than an LB, but we are a far better team when Danny is healthy and at his best.
