I did some academic stuff in New York until about 2000, so had friends living there when 9/11 rolled around. Until about 2019, I was politically ambivalent. I was doing ok (not great),I knew the Tories were shit bags and Labour was for the workers and the Lib dems and green were a bit of a sideshow...
But when I had a few minutes peace on those days of lockdown, where I took my solitary hour of exercise by walking the glorious British countryside (for well over a fucking hour btw),I started to think about how the fuck we got here and how the fuck things are going to be for my kids.
I was lucky enough to ride the coat tails of the UK being prosperous and a world superpower until I was in my late 30's. I knew every year I worked I worked hard it all got a bit better overall, with the exception of maybe he last 5 years where my lived experience saw some stagnation/decline... I knew I'd had a great run, but was shit scared for the world my kids would grow up in.
That's when I started to read about the left and the right and what history has thrown at us and how our democracy was a shining example to the entire civilised world... And how it had gone so fucking wrong in Merica, and how bad actors here were looking to cause the same turmoil so they could be the beneficiaries of our decline... that fucking pissed me off...
So now I see a Far right government installed in Italy. A Jackboot on the neck of France. Putin flexing on all of the former soviet block and committing acts of state terrorism on UK soil. China setting up concentration camps to produce shit products for European consumers, and the UK having a governing party that is actively fighting with other right wing parties over right wing voters with a disaster capitalists (who were directly involved in the 2008 economic crisis, making millions from it) at the helm of both entities...
And the average man in the street apparently can't see what I see...
The UK may need to become more isolationists due to the changing political tide across Europe but that does not mean we need to cut ties (bit fucking late I know) with Europe, slamming doors shut or that we need to suckle any form of fascist teat offered by any cunt.
Labour need the Tories to be out of opposition imo in order to be able to have a chance of turning this fucking sinking barge round... They'll need 2 terms at least to reverse the decline and promote recovery and some people won't like that they may well have to pay a bit more to do it.
The Tories should be thrown in fucking jail for the money they have facilitated out of the countries coffers and the taxpayers pockets into their donors and the super wealthy hands of whom lots of them are.
The HOL needs these cunts stripping out of it. Get their influence away from the piggy bank and hereditary Piers should be abolished with immediate effect.
My hope is that the Tories are undone by the Lib Dems (I think Ed Davies is having a good campaign) and they become opposition to a Labour government.
I hope that Labour, once in power start a slide back to centre left where they belong and don't continue to operate in the centre/centre right ground they're in where the conservatives traditionally sat.
I can only hope that Labour have the fight to get our fucking money back from these rich cunts and invest in public services enshrining lots of it in law so it can't be easily undone in the future.
I hope they look to prosecute any minister who is found to be doing wrong under treason laws and they're locked in the fucking tower of London indefinitely.
I hope they vehemently go after the COVID money and any business selling anything in the UK regardless of where they are registered... Age limits on political positions is necessary. Can't run for office if you're older than 74 years and 364 days when you would be sworn in.
Limits on donations you can accept, especially from mega corps and such.
Limits on the amount of ad / campaign money that can be spent by any person in your name.
Broaden the two party system into a three or four party system.

I'm Canadian too, and it's a lame lot we've got in charge (although thise waiting their turn are worse).
It's not only despicable, but also pathetic. Our dear leaders won't (yet) tell us who was culpable, but from what has come out so far, it was for the smallest of rewards, and the silliest of actions. They're still awful, but tiny, silly awful.
But...how is that worse than the rest of them, who have been working covertly, not with foreign governments, but with legit, well-established corporations, whose interests diverge from those of the general public just as much as, if not more than any foreign government. It's influence peddling all the way down, and it doesn't matter if it's a flag or a stock symbol behind it.
